Having 15 here this year. My SIL said she was looking forward to the chaos... she's alone and bored most days... ... she'll get "re-charged" for sure.

In another life time, Thanksgiving started on Tue. night.
Mom would bake a corn bread, in the iron skillet, for stuffing.
It needed to be a couple of days old to be just right.
When it was done, no amount of begging, would get you a piece.
Wed. night, she boiled up the neck, liver and gibblets from the bird.
When it was done, she created the stuffing. She chopped that neck meat and
liver up real fine. I can smell that mix of fresh chopped apple and onion coming out
of the kitchen. When it all came together in the bowl, wow.
She always saved a little chunk of that corn bread for me.....I loved it w/chocolate milk.
Thanksgiving morning, 5am. I would hear her get up. I always got up, too.
....to watch the stuffing of the bird and into the oven.
Then, slowly and methodically, she started all the other dishes.
She knew just what order to do them in so they would all come out at just the right time.
I just kind of hung around, keeping an eye on things.....bowls to "lick clean"..
    you know what I mean.
Sometime around 11, my aunt/uncle/cousins would arrive.
My uncle and dad would settle in front of the tv for football.
My sister, me and the cousins would do whatever....I don't remember.
Around noon, the relish tray came out on the table.
The black olives, clery sticks w/peanut butter, baby sweet pickles were my favorite.
Finally would come the call to the table. We all scooted into our tiny, for eight people,
dining table. The feast was passed around. Turkey/dressing, mashed potatoes, candied yams,
green beans and the best gravy from those turkey "drippings". I always passed on the salad....
didn't want to waste any space on salad.
Throughout the dinner, all the times apart were caught up on, as a family.
After we had eaten as much as we could, we all sat in the living room.
Eventually, mom and my aunt would do the cleaning of the kitchen.
Everyone helped w/what they could. It always went fast with all the hands.
Then, we all went to BowlerO for bowling.
On the way home from bowling, my dad would stop at a new place called
McDonalds for a sack full of $0.15 hamburgers.
My mom would make coffee for the "grown ups" and the kids would have
    Duffy's Blackcherry soda.

Those Thanksgivings are only in my mind now.
When I was living it, I didn't know that there was anything different......
always thought it would be this way.
Cherish the moments. Cherish your family and friends.
It's not always going to be that way.
I am so thankful that I lived those times.

Food, like firewood, gets consumed and vanishes, but we keep the memories, until those are taken too.

Wife just got done baking pumpkin cake, pumpkin pie and cherry pie. I have the 15lb. bird on the final thaw in the sink. She's the baker and I'm the cook. I will be making turkey, stuffing in the bird, mashed taters, gravy, corn, noodles, yams, and fresh baked rolls. It will be the wife & I, our Mom's, son & daughter in law. Special Thanksgiving as we just got confirmation that they will be having our first grand baby. 20171122_211626.jpg 20171122_211632.jpg 20171122_211638.jpg

We're going to our friends mom's house for Thanksgiving, like we did last year. There will be 14 of us. I call it our DBF Thanksgiving.

    Dysfunctional Boating Family. Lol

We had a great time last year, and we will again.

The 5 of us are headed to my cousins house. Which we do every year. My dad and his girlfriend are coming for dinner this year. Normally she does dinner. This year she's not doing it because her family is doing different things. Of my 5 cousins, 3 will be there with their spouses. Plus their kids/grandkids. 1 is coming for desert. Normally we have about 35-45. This year I'm told it will only be around 30. Bit easier to get a seat.

The girls do a Yankee swap. I keep telling the guys we should do a Yankee swap for tools. Though we'd probably get tools, and not want to swap them.

Finally when we get in the car to go home, my girls and especially my wife love that they can finally listen to Christmas music in the car with me. Yeah I know, Thanksgiving is barely over. However; it's become a bit of a tradition that I'll hold out to after Thanksgiving dinner. First thing they do when we get in the car is turn the radio to Christmas Music.

Safe travels to those driving long distances today to be with family and friends.

    Happy Thanksgiving

My wife, son and I will be going to our neighbors. There will be 12 of us enjoying Thanksgiving together. After dinner we will sit around all afternoon, then in the evening the food will come back out and we'll start all over again. Happy Thankgiving to all!

Happy Thanksgiving to all. When you sit down to the feast today and say your meal prayers, add one for the soul and family of the Oakland County Michigan Sheriffs Deputy killed in the line of duty just after midnight today. A 22 year veteran who leaves behind a wife and son. May he R.I.P.............

Well that turned into the 5 of us to the 3 of us. My oldest daughter is not feeling sick to her stomach. I'm staying home with her should she need someone. The wife is going and taking my dad with her and meeting his girlfriend at the party.

My wife will bring me a plate home.
