Agreed, dumping pets is disgusting. I grew up in the suburbs and didn't experience it. I did however work at the vet inside the humane society in my teens, and ended up taking hours in the actual kennels too. The things I saw were heartbreaking, and the worst was when the CU let out for summer and sometimes even Christmas break.. Then I saw some dumping near our home of 21 years on the edge of town, yes we backed up to state forest, but it was extremely popular for recreation, so not too much and the recreators helped too. Now here, its disgusting. 1/3 BLM open lands, 1/3 large ranches, and 1/3 residential scattered within the former 2, and the culture is different here too (vs the suburbs from my childhood).

Anyway, a lot of the newly dumped pets get to a shelter (not equipped to live in the wild), but there is a feral colony a couple miles down the road from me. Lila and another cat (poor thing was a prolific breeder for god knows how long), now have food and shelter and vet care for life. Just a tiny fraction of the problem, but.....

Trip to the Vet on Friday (WWW has the day off and I cannot do the dogs by myself). Both dogs, Lila wildcat, hoping to trap the other fixed wildcat but don't see her often enough to ensure it. And now I guess we will take the kitten too though he's not due for checkup or boosters yet. He has had a teary eye since the pics sent to me from when he was only 8 weeks old. I figured thats just the way he is (like toy poodles) and wipe it a few times a day. Now, he gets boogies sometimes in that nostrile. No signs of URI, no sneezing or mucous beyond what I mentioned before, but he's sleeping more for a few days. Who knows, maybe he's busy growing and needs the rest. Either way we'll find out.

Should be an adventure. WWW, me, lil one, both dogs, and 2 or 3 cats all in my truck :hair:

Thanks, and omg could imagine all of them loose!! Yes, kitten has airline carrier from delivery, hard sided one for our Lila wildcat (wish us luck getting her in it o_O, think I will don the awesome leather fireplace gloves from FHC Secret Santa, thank you again Brett ), and the other wildcat will be transported in the actual trap. On second thought, maybe I will take my truck too, dogs/kitten/lil one in one truck, and the 2 wildcats in another. Thanks for the tip Erik :)

When our boys were still living at home, we used to take momma cat and her 4 kittens to the vet by simply holding them. Once when they were bigger we tried taking them in the same way. One of the cats panicked and left scratches on the boys and the inside of the car. Cat carriers after that.

Mine sniffed the wind out the bulkhead, and decided to hang out in the indoor garden. IMG_20171120_29446.jpg

Hi wildwest, you are a softy . If you keep going you'll end up like me with a house full of cats and 8 dogs to boot. All of them were stray or feral and unwanted. We've got several indoor cats that were and still are feral. Their babies that came with them are tame with 1 exception. We can't touch them but they get along well with our cats and seem happy as long as we leave them alone. They have their own special areas they hang out in and we try not to look at them directly when we pass. I mistook one of them for one of the older friendly girls and my hand got shredded. Thought me to look closer first :headbang: In the new house we'll have a special cat area with fenced porches and kitty doors. Some of the dogs consider kitties snack food so they have to be separate. Hope your little one isn't getting worse.

    Ha!!

The kitten does not appear sick to me, I just have been out of the vet industry for so long and so many things have changed since back then I question things. Know what I mean?

Yes I do. Anytime kittens or puppies are too quiet or sleep more than normal its a good idea to be alert. Even though most upper respiratory problems are easy to cure. sometimes they pick up nasty herpies viruses.
One of ours has lost his eyesight on one eye and has a permanent infection in the other. We have tried every antibiotic and anti viral meds that's out there but nothing helped him at all. He gets eye drops every day and his little nose cleaned because it plugs up. He's lived with this for about 5 years now. I feel so badly for him but the only other thing one of the vets suggested is to take his eyes out all together. Herpies can be really nasty.
