I was going to start gathering the leaves out of the gardens today but the wind is horrible. It is blowing so hard that it is actually picking the leaves up off the ground and blowing them into the air. I heard something crash in the woods earlier. Too dangerous to go into the woods today. I hate strong winds. So far the only outside work was to stack the oak I split yesterday.
We're supposed to get some nasty stuff starting in about an hour. We'll see but I'm glad my boy shot his deer today during our youth season.
I am always surprised that every year I get a huge pile of leaves that manage to jump my 6' chain link fence (20 x 40 cat pen). Then they all herd together and pack under the ramp to the back door. One could argue that the leaves go thru the chainlink but these are huge maple leaves (bigger than the chain link openings) and aren't torn up so I assume they jump the fence. Plus, during milder winds, very few get into the pen even as they've completely covered around it. Regardless of how it happens, that is some serious wind.
Glad you didn't try to get out in the woods with that wind. It was terrible windy here yesterday as well. Started out of the south at 15mph then switched to the north after midmorning. Gust were 35+ and we got to see our first snow flakes of the year!
