I lit a load before leaving today.
45 minutes later it was settled in at 550°. 20171117_161452.jpg

It took a while to learn and trust my stove before loading that way. That is mostly alder, but I'll load like that with whatever I'm burning...fir, maple, birch, hemlock. Usually a combo. For some reason, fir requires the air be left a little more open to maintain a healthy burn.
Reloading a warm stove, i dont use as many small splits.

image.jpg Probably my best tetris without assembling on the carpet beforehand. About 1/2 inch between burn tube and wood. At most I had room for a pallet board to the front on top row, but small wood in front falls down.

Little mix of red maple, red oak and a split of apple for good measure. Not a bad fill, think the top right piece might be pushing up on the baffle a bit.

Finally cold enough for me to do this right! Loaded Miss October up with birch and probably the tiniest twig of cherry as you can see it on the middle row to keep my top splits from hitting the glass. 053F5468-E0BD-444F-852A-AAA380D881C7.jpeg

5 hours later...seriously, Im still trying to get the coals to burn down. Sorry this isn’t tetris related but that burned a long time. Sorry excuses for birch being a hard wood ? but boy does it coal. D5DB2B76-4F59-46FC-A49D-8303BF863B5C.jpeg

Not my best Tetris, but it kept the house nice and warm last night. All beech, except 1 pine split. IMG_20171212_231725225.jpg
