I have finished processing the mountain of Oak that was kindly left for me by the forestry boys 4 months ago! Half of the load has had the bark removed and some I have drilled a hole through the center to speed up seasoning. The hole through the center is a test , so forgive me if I'm being naive The load is stacked in 5 shopping trolleys (dumped in the park ) and is kept in a well ventilated room heated to around 20c. Current moisture meter reading is between 12 to 18. What is a good target for Oak? Cheers for looking. BB
You season wood with style and class, iBob! In a heated indoor space, with the bark off, that oak should dry out quick. If you can spare the electricity for a dehumidifier, even better! I'm doubtful the drilled holes will do much, as it only increases the surface area by a little.
When you want to test take one of the splits and split it again and test around the centre. Your wood is already in a heated space but if it wasn't, you would want to bring it inside first to warm up.
