Our cat got skunked once and we tried the tomato juice thing and it didn't work at all. We found the recipe for peroxide, dawn, baking soda and water and that worked great.
x2, too many dogs over the years and many get sprayed. That concoction worked better than anything I've tried. I actually keep a designated dawn and bulk baking soda in the bathroom on an uppper back shelf just for that. Only drawback is when they shake while its soaking, it's kinda hard to get off the chrome shower curtain rod.

I can "visualize" that happening We had a friend who's dog got skunked, during a storm. She didn't have any Tomato juice in the house but she had some spaghetti sauce, oh well. She smeared it on her Lab, then they lost elec. power from the storm, for the weekend . I can only imagine cleaning up 3 day old spaghetti sauce off your dog, at least the parts the dog can't reach
