From the sound of it, by the time they do get the delivery it will be green wood.

I thought the exact same thing. This is that whole “pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today”. If they don’t get it soon, that’s all he will have and the family will be seriously gypped. I second the title.
Definitely am lucky to do this.

Yep, I won't take money till the vehicle is repaired. Less headaches & happier customers that way.

The wood we ordered this past August never did show up. I just quit chasing the guy...I think it was 4 trips to his shop and multiple phone calls with empty promises....

The sign says 100/cord. why does the article say they paid a $400 deposit on the 800 total for 4 cords? Hell, at this point, I wouldn't trust the guy as far as I can chuck a full round of red oak....

Almost all the wood for sale around here is cut in the late winter/spring and left in a big ol pile of splits on the ground. No air flow, out in the rain, bottom of the pile is in the wet dirt. Then it is sold as seasoned firewood.

So many things wrong with that story. The buying family obviously can't perform basic math, paying $400 as a 50% deposit on 4 cords for wood that is advertised as $100 per cord. The wood seller is obviously full of s**t with all those excuses.
I'd go back down there with a more definitive solution- either money back right now, or I'm taking $400 in equipment, your choice. Either way, my kids aren't going to be cold any longer.

I would be knocking on his door and kindly ask for my money back so I can go elsewhere. If kindly doesn't work..... I have a feeling though that the money is gone. The man is making excuses; you don't run a business that way and I use to build and sell custom computers. You step up and do what you have to do even if it means taking a lost and I have taken some. The "don't have a driver" is probably just an excuse as the man probably never advertised that he needed drivers.
