Sun shine and chilly, -17 C feels like -24 C this morning, or 1 F feels like -11 F. Something must have rolled or the stove stalled for a bit last night, because there's more coals than normal. In any event, the shack was at 58 F, and the oil furnace was turned down, so it never kicked. That's where the biggest savings are, preventing that first morning run of the furnace. Almost made it to 70 F in the stove room now.
Temps. turned really warm yesterday and it is in the mid- 40's here. Also, my wood stove seems to have gotten about 426 times larger in the last two days.... not sure but it may have something to do with the insulation crew closing in the southern end of the house; on Sunday, there were a couple of places the wind was blowing through. So we went from R <negative> to R- medium, huge improvement. Brian
Got up to 46ºF here today. 36ºF now. Burning some swamp maple. Time of year for Morning fires and Evening fires.
How far north in AK are you? Like a -10 degree latitude? Seriously, you must be in one of those places that reaches -50F, -70F every winter. I live in the northeast US, pretty close to Boston and while we have snow, cold and 'real' winters, it is never, ever anything like fifty below zero here. The coldest I ever remember was two years ago when it reached -9F overnight, and it rose above zero both the previous and next days. Brian
It gets -35 f to -45 f in far northern NH & Maine. 15 to 20 below is not uncommon in central & southern NH.
Nope, son Matt has done a boxer only run through the snow in extreme cold for years now. Just runs to the tree line and back.
Nothing planned, tough time to get away with the holidays and everything going on. Seems that every weekend is penciled in with something.
