    Which do you prefer?

I'm using silicone since it's what I have... re-installing my stove with mostly used 4" vent.

Silicone tape is the best imo.....unless you are not taking certain joints apart than straight silicone on those.

I like the high temp Foil Tape. I do not like silicone for this reason.
I had to replace an exhaust blower and housing in a magnum Baby Countryside, the original blower did not have the 6” mounting quick change hub so we had to remove the venting to change it. Well the venting was so securely stuck together with silicone, that the only way to get the pipe off was to bring in the sazall and then replace the pipes. Only $90.00 more dollars the customer had to pay!

This is my complaint with the foil tape. I was under the impression that the silicone came off easier.

Silicone tape comes off easily. It's silicone in a tube that is difficult to remove.I love the silicone tape.

I used the good high temp foil tape on the inner joints.

If need be a good heat gun will soften the sticky so the tape will come off easily.

The seals on the pellet pipe always seem to leak smoke unless you cover the joints.

I used a 4 bolt flange adapter between the exhaust housing and the pellet vent.

If things need to come apart it's just four 1/4 inch nuts and the stove can be slid away from the pipe and all is good without needing a hack job.

I use high temp silicone goop between the adapter and the pipe to affect a good seal.

This reinstall isn't going good... no ambition. Got down to +12F the other night but now it's in the 40's... I have a mixed bag of parts for the vent and oak... trying to make the thing look half way professional (but why start now?)...
