Temps. came back up to almost 50F today so back to burning silver maple, and as many uglies as I can find. No need to get any time out of the stove. Insulation crew showing up tomorrow so hopefully in a few days my Ideal Steel will seem 43 times bigger than it does right now. Plus no more birds in the house.... (kidding about that but not by much). Brian
Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada Check this for a lost.in your area. Some places are the ones that sell it in the can for a million a gallon though
Its 0c here right now. We have some snow covering everything but its been mild,,, hovering just above or just below freezing. I have a truck load of doug fir needing splitting before I put the splitter to bed for the season. Since its not -20c I figured I could give it a go tomorrow (manufacturer says not to run it at those temps). Everything depends on my work right now and Ive been working like a demon this year. Make hay while the sun shines I guess. Happy burning!!
Minus 8°F when I checked a half hour ago. Not even close to the forecast. Filled the stove for the night with poplar. Its been a great 3 day weekend. Got my wife's new Whirlpool gas range converted to L.P. and installed this weekend. . That was good ! Happy wife , happy life. Plus she cooks my food , so it's good to have a new stove for her. The oven went out in our old one. I picked this one up at Lowe's at the same time I got the Timber Champ. Its a 5 burner top which should be Great for canning with the big pressure cooker.
Nice! New appliances are great. I wish it was colder here. At this rate the ice formation on the lakes has slowed to a snails pace Im sure.
-5* and snowing spruce is choochin, all babies are snuggled up in there beds. House is at 74*. Northern lights were out good on the way home from work.
Thermometer says 26 here this morning. I just put three more splits of Ash in the boiler. Suppose to get a little snow this morning but it will warm up to 38 this afternoon. Perfect. Time to get some outside work done over the next few days.
Mid 30's, weather guessers indicate the rain has gone away and mid 40's today. The OWB should have a belly full of mostly ash.
Canadian border VT do you have any update on when you will get power restored? This has been way too long to go without power especially at this time of year and with family.
Looks nice. Write up a review of it in about a month or three. I'm just about due for a replacement at the cottage. Thanks.
Its 46 but about an hour ago wind was howling and rain was looking pretty torrential. Small birch cherry fire to chase the moisture and slight chill away. I let the fire burn out last night as it got a bit too warm. This’ll work for now.
Currently sitting at -9 C ( 15 F) here, with poplar in the reactor. A nice selection of rounds and pie shaped splits sailed slowly through the night.
A lot of the maple I have are uglies. They were from the top part of the tree so this jumbled mess from the regrowing new branches that get pruned. Then that gets just overgrown, its not straight grain at all but if someone wanted to turn these, would be interesting what came out of it.
Here in South NJ we have an abundance of Maple! I get so much of it at times I give about 70% away. We get nor-easters here and the maples are shallow rooted so any good storm we get I get phone calls for taking out trees. "I'm not" a tree guy at all, just word of mouth over the years get's me all the wood I can handle. I've never went searching for wood in the last 30 years. If I can't get it or don't need it I have many folks who will! This time of year, I'm mainly burning all maple, other crap and uglies. When the cold snap kicks in that's when I use my Oak, Hickory with Cherry mixed in. We are also fortunate to have Gum trees here as well, burns good, hot and long but "DON'T" even try to split it!
I hear Vancouver is supposed to get 90 km winds today. With your location you are a bit inland right? Does that help with cutting down the full brunt of the winds? It will be interesting to see how your woodstacks "weather" the biblical rain you get there. Hopefully they will stay dry enough for you.
When you say Gum trees are you referring to eucalyptus? Gum trees are 90% of my wood supply and I split by hand! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
