I've never heard of. Mulberry except in a nursery rhyme or something. What kind of a wood is it ?? What is it similar to ?
I used it with four rods this time as I disconnected the stove pipe up to the ceiling I have had it for four years now and we also use it on my son's chimney. I’ve replaced the lines twice already. I use string trimmer line size .105. I didn’t even have to spin it that fast this year as it wasn’t crusty in the flue, just a nice thin soft layer. It came out nice and clean. The reason I now take of the pipe from the stove is that I’ve cut through three rods by trying to get them up the bypass from the front of the stove. My Lopi has a sliding bypass but it is square and has sharp edges. The rods I have are the black ones which are hollow. They bend well but melt if you run them fast and it hits the edges of the bypass. It’s worth the trouble for me to take out the pipe.
Current temp 14°F with a wind chill of about 6°F headed down to 7°F tonight. It'll be a full load in the oakleaf tonight.
29f right now but with the wind whipping around 25 mph it's feels like 20 out there just got home from work so the stove will be cranking tonight, ash and maple for now
Its 23:35h, 41°F outside, rain and more rain - burning mostly black alder, elm and maple. Its around 71,6 °F downstairs.
Here at Exit 0 we are 35º going down to 24º! Grandma burning well, holding steady at 400º Room at a balmy 78º. Using up the ugly pile
We had 14 this morning with a high of 20 today with some good winds for most of the day, they're calling for 9 tonight.
27 outside, I saw 30 once today during my travels. Small splits of ash and maple doing the job.....just reloaded at 5:30. Supposed to be 13 before the sun comes up.
Unseasonably cold here too Low last night was 16, burned a mix of Ash, Maple and Hickory, high today was 25, burned a mix of Ash, Maple and Box Elder. Low and high temperatures broke records, Normal high for this time of year is 49. They say a low tonight of 14, I will be burning the same mix I burned last night. The Good news, no snow
I went for a fast walk this evening before dinner. And the wind was nasty. Luckily it wasn't blowing too fast. Currently 15 with Ash and a little Cherry burning.
Temps. heading down here, currently at 28F but going into the high teens (cold for the first half of November here). I have burned down the coals, scraped out the ashes and am now running off 2/3 of a stove full of silver maple. The plan is to have a good bed of coals from the maple for a load of oak for overnight. That, plus I plugged all the holes in the house bigger than 6" X 6" so that should slow down the heat leaks. We are only heating 1/2 of a house here but because that half is underneath a half that is fully open to the outside, it is tougher than it sounds. Contractor is supposed to be here Monday and will start addressing the gigantic flaws but it will be back in the 40's by then. Until then, we are counting on chemistry and physics, and a very nice Ideal Steel woodstove to carry the day..... Brian
Sorry I didn't see this earlier Backwoods Savage Dennis, but I've been gone all day. We only got about an inch. All that hullabaloo about up to 6" amounted to not much more than a dusting. Pretty much Snafu.
OFFTOPIC: In 2011 I rode cross- country from RI, to Rye, NY and then to Ocean Shores, WA. First time west of Chicago on a vehicle. Something that absolutely amazed this New England boy was the gates on the entrances to I-90 throughout the central / northern states! We simply do not have that around here; if a highway is shut down due to high snowfall, it is back open w/in a matter of hours. But in those vast, open spaces, with such low temperatures and snowfall measured in feet instead of inches, it gets to a point where the highway just cannot be kept open. I am old and my hair is gray but I had never seen anything like that before so it really took me by surprise. Below zero is something that happens once, or <maybe> twice a year here, and only for a matter or a day or so at most. Two days below zero would be the topic of conversation all over the place. Two years ago it hit -9 and that was cold enough to freeze my water meter, which shows how unusual it is here. So my compliments to you tough folk who live in that stuff, year after year. And with any luck at all, I may be able to join you someday if I can get away from this insan...... er, I mean 'left- leaning' area and relocate to a more reasonable part of the country. Sorry for my OFFTOPIC thoughts but I am waiting for the stove to eat the garbage silver maple in it so I can load it with real wood and do not have anything else to do..... Brian
Our road crews do a good job; when we travel to an area where they don't do a good job, it is readily apparent!
RealFeel is 7, to be in the negatives by morning. November or not, we're hitting it hard tonight with some 3yr css beech, black birch, and ash. Pine season is temporarily on hold.
