It is open enrollment and I started to look for a health plan next year. I just got a notice from my "Affordable Care".
They upped me from $879/month to $1105/month and it doesn't cover chit and is only for me. Affordable my ARS. The only thing that is affordable about the plan is, After paying the premium I can't afford to go to the doctor.
Just starting to research other plans. Every web site I visit demands my cell # so my phone will be exploding.
For those of you that have to provide your own insurance, What do you have and approximant cost?
I thought last year was expensive. This year is a joke. If I can't find anything more reasonable, I will roll the dice and go without insurance for the next 1 year and 9 months. What the heck. The poor people get free health care. If I have a major problem, it would wipe out 63 years of savings. I will join them that live off the system. Just can't see paying that much for nothing.

Trying my very best to not get up on my political soapbox. I could fill the whole page if I started. Don't want to be whacked by the Mods.
Started out going to the Doc. this morning. Doc wanted blood tests that cost me $200 last time. I was still on COBRA from my empl0yor at the time and they paid 2/3 of the cost. No way Doc. If I have the same plan come Jan. order all the test and operation I need to make me feel like a 20 year-old again. Figure I would blow through their deductible in the first couple of months and then get my moneys worth for the rest of the year.
Came home to discover the increase notification.

Same boat I am in. If they only counted my SS check as income, I would be in fat city with the premiums.
Going to talk to my financial advisor about withdrawing the 401k for next year in a lump sum come Dec. Bite the bullet and send my money to the IRS. From premiums, meds and 2 surgeries this year I am at over 16k deductible medical expense.

Yep... we'll see what happens... we're going to talk with the local health care folks and see if we'll actually have that much of a jump in monthly payments. I'm not optimistic... :headbang:

If you don't need the insurance for other than being forced to have it I'd just pay the penalties at tax time
And thank the last people in office

umm maybe wait and see.. find out if you can get major medical coverage only.. before Obama care.. it paid for cancer run over by a car or blew up my knee skiing.. did not cover regular doctor visits..

then get a good financial advisor and see if you can't transfer your assets to a trust or other financial instrument that's protected and run the risk really depends on age.. also realize 40% plus of Dr's expenses are trying to collect offer to pay small bills up front if cash discount

I know someone that provides this health care stuff known as Obamacare.

I spoke with him recently about the open enrollment period...(I bet you're really busy; what about deer hunting; etc.)

and one of he things he said is that everyone is calling him since their letters showing the increase in monthly premiums are going up...way up. After they make an appointment and come in, it turns out the increase is rather small/nominal.

Based on what this very busy acquaintance says, I would make an appointment with your agent/representative and get the mater cleared up.

After 40 years working in the coal mines, my dad still cannot retire due to insurance issues. He's trying to make it another 3 yrs for Medicare. Slave to the system.

I've probably been too vocal about Obummercare here. We made HUGE sacrafices in our home and lifestyle to be able to put $1000/month away for retirement, never in my life would I have thought our cadillac plans we had for 25 years that covered us, then up to $440/month for all 3 of us would more than TRIPLE, while excluding dental/vision (we now pay extra). I am separate around $350/month. WWW and lil are on a separate plan that was $1100 in 2014, up to $1300 in 2015, we stepped down a level for them in 2016 and are still at $940/month presently (not even a flipping flu shot is covered  ). Just to clarify, we are WAY under the $250,000 income cap and still don't qualify for any credits/subsidies. ZERO.

ETA, just opened our letter up another $360 to $1316/mon in January. We went from 3 or 5 carriers in 2014 to ONE now. One.

Just a heads up, there are several Christian based health cost sharing programs available. There are several requirements such as no alcohol, tobacco, no adultery, and church attendance. PM me if you would like more information.

I've had my family on one for 4-5 years now and I've been very pleased!

Samaritan is who we use, two of our four kids were born while we were members. Our oldest had a major inner ear surgery (3 hour surgery time to remove a cyst that was destroying the bone) we have been very pleased! He will have at least one more surgery.

I am blessed to have employer paid insurance. I have maintained through all the hoopla and BS that the *real problem is the cost of care/services. If they were not so astronomically high, we would not need insurance to pay for our care. Ironic part is that the insurers themselves run up the costs, all the while telling us they are keeping costs low by means of competition.

This is only the beginning...this will not end well.

Edit: Video may have NSFW language
