After our spring day yesterday is is more back to normal now. Looks like a chilly week coming up with the coldest being Friday when they are predicting our first day of the season to not get above freezing.

Sun shining brightly with right around freezing for a temp, but....the breeze makes it a bone chilling experience outside today! Brrr!

Had to change out the light switch on the OWB finally.

Sitting at -11 C (12 F) and a bit of wind, and supposed to nail about -21 C with the wind chill overnight. I sure like not needing firestarters in the morning...:D There's a bright side to everything, you just need to look for it.

Yep getting some snow out side right now. Will be down to at least 20 tonight with a high of 30 tomorrow. Will burn my usual of lodge pole pine, cottonwood, and some ash that hit the 3 year mark this winter. Gotta love that 3 year plan. Thanks Dennis.

It did and yesterday was a nice test. We had loaded it up with apple, cherry and Plum. Just to try out these woods, it was VERY nice. The glass stayed clean albiet slight browning on the bottom corners. One thing Im realizing that if I load this with a bit too much doug fir, it runs away on me. Even shutting down on time and everything. I have reason to believe the sap in the wood has a bit to do with it. I smelled the metal cooking a bit and looked for the iR therm. It was at 575 and climbing rapidly. Got way up to 600+ So I grabbed some wet oak pieces to give it a bit of calming down. Too hot and my stove knows how to tell me that. Still learning but I get the gist that this burns hardwoods better than soft. So we’ll get to the cherry and birch in the other stack, load that into the wood bin and I think that’ll make me feel better. Hardwood burns hot but doesn’t seem to have a fragrant fire like fir.

Oh for heavens sake. I would get that buzz whenever I turned on lights at work during cold dry winter days. Holy smokes was it ridiculously strong.

Sorry I posted and posted and posting again. Site seems to be signing me out and I miss the alerts. So its 33° out, headed down to 28° as the forcast mentions. Doug fir fire again. Late start too..I actually decided to enjoy the cold this evening after a decent day of warmth. Got to be 50°+ today... we’ll get a couple more like this but no going up in 55 area so much. 40’s and high 30’s at night.

All stoves react a bit differently. I had mine 3/4 full with doug fir late this morning and fully turned down and I was cruising at 575 stove top and it was fine. Ive had it cruising up at 675f and sometimes a bit higher and its been good, again all stoves are different. Some say you only get that smell for the first few times but I know that your stove will do this each time you get to a new high temperature. I agree though it definitely`gets your attention which is good!

Definitely did get my attention. I guess if I really wanted to I could let it go that high but it was because I did read the manual at that temp it says thats no good. But with other stoves, thats a low gear! Will keep at it. Just loaded her up with birch on doug coals, looks like this is the optimal way to do it rather than let it get too warm too fast. Let it come back up again...
