I would be Real happy if Stihl still made the 064 and Husky still made the 288 with decompression and spring mounts. But , such is ( progress) . The 390 Husky is a good saw. I'm sure the new 661 will get all the bugs resolved.
Welcome to the forum. What part of Montana. I've cut timber with a bunch of Montanan's from around Libby and other towns.

By Georgetown lake. I'm going to take a look at the huskies again. Amen on the spring mounts, I wouldn't mind seeing them on most saws.
I'm hoping they will straighten out the 661s. I cut from 4400 feet to 8000+.

Perfect! Thanks alot. I'm going to take that info to the dealer. Lots of questions answered succinctly. I would much rather be content right out of the gate! I just used that 391 I've got to cut a cord of lodge pole. I wanted a disposable saw for work, but my hamstrings don't care for those small cube saws.

I wouldn't have know that info about the 661's if it wouldn't have been for some of the guy's on the site here such as Moparmyway , Redfin and a few others which I am sorry I can't remember the names, I am terrible with names those were just the last two that I remember having the most recent conversations with.:emb: I don't know a whole lot about saws but I am gaining alot of knowledge just from talking to some of the masters of saws on our site!

The other thing that Moparmyway told me and I think that it was in this thread or another thread about a 661 was that "the connections on some of the 661's are poor and just need soldered, once soldered seems to take care of the problems! "

I'm liking this place. Where else to go for information? Real old fashion saw shops are pretty much gone around here. I've got a great stihl place here, but no one to port some of my newer saws. Seems to me that it is the little tips that get you where you wish to go.:salute:

Yeah, I'm a big proponent of shrink tube. Someone told me the new electronic stuff can give a guy the fits. I'm going to talk to the sales rep Monday night. They are sticklers on warranty stuff though.

There are more than a couple guys on these here saw forums that will unleash the beast from just about any new saw you wish to have ported. Start googling “ported 661” or search it out on YouTube as well. Won’t take you long to find some excellent saw porn for sure!

That's the good stuff. I knew there had to be a passage to saw masters somewhere on the web! I'll Google ported 661s. Thanks

Man, if I tried to change my techniques now....? I would probably butcher every chain I layed file to! But, I'm willing to try something new. ( if it is a worn out chain anyway)
