I saw (pun intended) this little XL on a local Facebook sales page for $25 and jumped on it. Starts on ether, but not on its own...feels like it has a ton of compression though.

I don't have a lot of experience with small engines...where should I start to get this thing running?

    Empty any old fuel
    Add new fuel
I use same mix for old & new saws 3oz/gallon , little richer than 50:1
(Older saw materials don't like ethanol)
Check for fuel leaks, have had to replace the fuel line in old saws

    Switch on, choke
    See if it’ll start

On my old homelites i had to replace all fuel lines and filters. That ethanol crap eats saws up. Id clean the carb, replace the fuel lines, spark plug and go from there. If it starts on ether, you know its a fuel issue. Every time its been the fuel lines/filter for me.

That is a clean looking machine.

They had more than one setup for the impulse driven oil pump system. It uses a series of duckbill check valves and, in some cases, significant plumbing. Likely the duckbills and associated lines will be past due. I'd be skipping using ether to try and get it going, though. Mixed fuel only. Just throwing that out there.

Never use ether on a two stroke motor. There is no oil in either and you can quickly score or damage your piston and ring. It is always a good idea to redo the fuel system fuel filters, fuel lines, rebuild the carb Etc.
