Looking at covers for a 5th wheel camper and hoping some here might have experience with them. Don't completely trust the reviews floating around out there so I figured I'd ask here. What worked or didn't work for you? Thanks.
Covering the entire unit could result in condensation build up in the interior unless your cover is a breathable fabric. Poly tarp coverings are the worst.
I covered my trailer last winter after not covering it for 3 years. I don’t think I’ll cover it again. It’s more trouble than it’s worth. The cover was breathable fabric, but I ended up with mildew. And the cover ended up tearing at the top corners due to wind. The camper is 20 years old and doesn’t leak (anymore), and it’s ugly as can be, so I don’t think covering it will really do me any good; and likely will just cause aggravation. Best of luck. I'm with Rottiman and Saewoody on this one. I would not cover an RV, too many moisture issues. Delamination issues are prevalent without the covers, but many think the covers make the delamination issues worse. Just my 2 cents, but I'm not alone on this line of thinking.
Have been looking at the breathable ones only and I've read many different thoughts on cover or not covering. We get a lot of lake effect snow here and I'm concerned about the snow piling up higher than the vent covers and finding its way in when it starts to melt. We're also close to a lake and the wind here can really get moving. Not many of the covers have even decent wind reviews. Then there's the issues of paying for inside storage. Some of those stories include major rodent issues, damage from others, and things missing. Not sure I could get away with putting up a shelter for it either. Codes guy is pretty strict, he has to be, and he lives 4 houses up the road.
I'd definitely check up on the codes and go the route of carport if at all possible. With wind though I'd probably put sides all the way down and for sure use plenty of mobile home anchors. You'll pay a bit extra for the anchors but worth it to keep it from flying away. On the other hand, when we had our motor home we did have a cover for it but was very breathable and had no problems with it and it never tore either. fwiw, we did get it from Camping World. But today, I'd go for a carport first. Interesting too that a neighbor just put one up for his camper and loves it but now wishes he would have extended the sides down all the way and is planning on doing just that very soon.
