I haven't been able to ask her why she didn't go to a regular vet. There is a nice team in Winthrop that normally treats her animals. I didn't want to bring that up for fear of being critical of her judgement. She is in so much stress as it is. I called her this Am. She hasn't spoken to the hospital, but is on her way down to see them. When I hear something, I will update this crew.
The white dog is the one who is ill.

Got a text from my Son in-law in Afghanistan. My daughter's dog, Ally has been put down. They are heading back here from the vets and the kids are coming home from college. Ally is going to be laid to rest out by our other animals. Just sick about this. Thanks for the ears and shoulders.

But yikes, they cost more than they used to. We've been talking about after current ones get older, decided on a wirehair german shorthair and another brittany. This for sale ad is so tempting

One of the female Heeler's from this litter. I really like her unique Bentley mark on her forehead.

Watched tv til after 12, shutting down the house and Lila wildcat showed up at the door, rain/snow alternating today and she was a bit wet, let her in (kitten and kid are asleep with her door closed, dad and dogs asleep in our bed, afraid she will attack the kitten too). Darn I'm having a hard time putting her into the heated house in the garage. Stupid because she frequently draws blood on kid/me/hubby/both dogs without warning, and stupid because she prefers to stay out most nights anyway. Well, 2 more days and the second cat door will be installed and she can come an go as she pleases. It's been over a year working with her, "you can take a wildcat out of the wild, but you cannot take the wild out of the cat" is true. Guess it was my expectations, need a reality check. Also sad that both dogs were practically raised by our long time cat, they all groomed eachother, slept all ontop of eachother, but now both dogs are afraid of the new harmless kitten, no doubt because of too many sucker punches (sharp clawed ones - unprovoked) from Lila.

She showed up while WWW and little one were cutting the hole in the "enclosed" porch for the first cat door today but would not let them pet her (like usual, "give me attention" but does not want to reciprocate and shows aggression). OK, I guess I kinda just answered my own quandry here. I'll wait till she's good and dry and put her in the heated house in the garage. EDIT, done, she's in her new house.

I'm wondering if the vet that did the TNR spay/clip ear/chip/vaccinate forgot to chip her. We tested/programmed the new microchip door on our old Blackie dog, (his microchip is 11-12 years old) and programmed no problem, but she read NOTHING, we lured her her through the it few times -and- NOTHING (I assumed the vet clinic did not have record of Lila for us because it was registered under the animal league that provided the discount service for wildcats/barncats but now think otherwise). Guess we will have to wrangle her and take her back to a vet and get a chip put in, stressful for her but this door will hopefully keep coons and skunks and snow out but let her come and go out as she always wants, which is usually go out. It was hilarious with Blackie, only his head fits through the cat door, he did not mind at all but funny to see and we know the door actually works:rofl: .

So sorry Lila had not warmed up more - but it can literally take years. Fuzzy was feral for at least 5 years before he consented to be touched. He wouldn't even get close when we put food out nor show any inclination to be in the house at all. Once he allowed us to touch him, things progressed quickly and he became the friendliest cat to other people we ever had. Will say we never had issues with him using claws though. It was evident he would defend himself ably if attacked - he had to be tough to survive the woods all those years - woods that he shared with coyotes, fishers, bear etc.

Sorry for your family's loss savemoney

I too have had to deal with an emergency vet. Their bill was 5x what my normal vet would have charged when I showed him the breakdown. To make it worse, the emergency vet had the guts to look me dead in the eye Before Even Looking at the dog and say "let me get you an estimate. We charge alot and you may not be able to afford it." Oooooooooo I was furious.

I said "fix the dog, lady....that's your job. Making sure the bill gets paid is my job". There were a few "not safe for FHC" words added into my response that I left out of the above. She got the point.

Anyway, my condolences go out to you and yours.
