It's a damp 38° outside and my dog had spay surgery 2 days ago. Good day to stay inside and feed the stove ugly chunks. I'm looking forward to loading this knotted up fir.
reminds me of the maul days. Swing hard enough & enough times even the uglies will break apart. Spruce was one of my toughest They do dry faster & burn better with all the cracks Without hydraulics, I wouldn’t be burning now. “Memories “
Oh gosh, those uglies shouldn't go in a pretty stove. Just save them for a while, and I'll dispose of 'em for ya!
If it doesn't fit well when loading up the stove, then I consider it an ugly. Every time I take the dog out I try to grab an ugly piece. Of course, now that I want them, they're hard to find. I did grab some long alder and maple pieces that will probably have to fit diagonally. They're from my neighbor's property so I think the tree service guys cut them that long. And now it's spitting wet snow outside.
Yeah that’s gonna burn awhile! I put one of those in like a day ago and it burned at least 2 hours. Hope pup feels better!
Spruce is ugly. Had a landscape tree that was given to me in return for just getting it out of a guys yard. It was free and I always enjoy that. But....come time to split it....wow. A bird-nested fishing reel has fewer knots than that...
Well I'm sure there are more ugly sticks in my pile under snow (these are too ugly to be in the stacks) but this was sitting by the stove earlier. I present to you, one ugly piece of poplar. This one started life out as a poplar and died, year of death unknown. A pleasing color scheme, ravaged by ants?, the elements, and time. It almost seems half petrified with a dash of dry rot accenting it's presence.
That's not ugly....that's just wood. That's pretty much what all my wood looks like. For years that is all the wood we had. Doug Fir and ponderosa. Always enjoy the lodge pole because most does not need to be split. How can wood, any wood.....going into your stove...be ugly?
That is ugly. But when I think of ugly pieces, I think of odd shaped pieces that don't stack well. I did burn some semi punky pieces today that I prefer to burn right when I bring them inside. They probably have spiders in them so I'd rather not store them inside.
