Thanks BrianK. Are those last three-(sides, andirons, burner) all lumped into that additional $125, or a price per? I couldn't tell.
And now I have to figure what S/H would run. I have a bit of (bald) head scratching to do.

 

I didn't see anything re: a heat shield on the pricing page.

What does the stove look like with out the side designs and just the soapstone side panels? Anybody have a picture?

 

I would get the ashpan before anything else, but really at that price, spread out over 30 years (?) you might as well get the stone too. While you are at it, the cooktop will pay for itself the first time an ice storm knocks out power for 4 days. Might as well just order it loaded up.

 

The leg covers hold the soapstone side panels. If there are no side designs you won't see the soapstone behind the covers.

I've been looking myself, neither me or my wife are crazy about the side designs but I would like to have the stone, maybe we'll end up just going the whole nine yards, I plan on having this stove a long long time.

 

I agree with you. My wife isn't overly excited about the stoves 'looks' at all. I'm a function first, aesthetics second kind of guy, so I'll make it work either way.

 

Actually I think the leg covers are produced with a round cut out. The custom cut designs are then attached to the outside of the leg covers and the stone is hung on the inside of them.

So there's no reason you couldn't have the large round cut out with the soapstone behind it with no design. Or just no hole/cut out at all, just metal with the stone hidden.

Our Fleur de lis design is held onto the leg covers with two Allen head screws. I just popped one off:

 

I still don't know what to do. I need more info on the rear heat shield and if I can connect a blower to it myself.

 

Do you have the option of rear or top vent with this stove?

 

Lot of questions, here is what I know from ordering yesterday:

• There are top and rear vent options
  
• Taxes were not collected by Woodstock, at least on my purchase
• Shipping quote was $385.00 from Woodstock to northwest NJ. I was able to get $200.00 knocked off by having it shipped to a nearby freight terminal where I will pick it up with an SUV + trailer combo
• Heat shield kit is included at no additional cost

Their "The Works" package is an incredibly good deal. Hopefully the innovation and low price point of this stove will knock some sense into other stove manufacturers who have been sitting on their @$$es in terms of innovation and customer service. The Ideal is quite a welcome development.

BrowningBAR, the independent UL testing will be taking place within the next couple weeks, and the testing will determine if an additional rear heat shield is required in order to obtain low clearances. If it's determined that a rear heat shield is needed, we will then look at the cost to manufacture the part. Keep in mind our rear heat shield prices for our other models sell for $65-80.
Regarding the $1795.00 price for the basic model, this is a pre-production sale price. I hope this helps.

 

Just placed my deposit! This will be my first wood stove. We are excited for a house that is warmer than 58!! I already have 4 cords of dead white ash split and stacked ready for next winter!
