Do you think this cranks seal needs replaced? I was able to hear it leaking when I was vacuum testing the saw.

Looks like someone was struggling to remove that one?

One thing is for certain. She will be a screamer if it runs. At least for 30 seconds or so.

The saw had been sitting for over a year. I got it running after a couple hours of owning it but it idled at about 6000 rpms. At least I know it runs and sounds good. I'm hoping to get both crank seals tomorrow (if they are in stock) then vacuum and pressure test again. I guess with it sitting the seal dried out and disintegrated.

I find some leaks are hard to find. I have resorted to removing ignition components and with the block offs in place, dunking the saw in a bin of water. Tell tale sign of bubble tracers lead right to the source.

That one would be blowing bubbles like a Jacuzzi. Looks like you can see the garter spring in a couple of places.

It was very easy to hear. I've used an automotive evap tester before. It makes smoke so I can see the leak. Yes, the spring is visible.

Is that a crack above the pocket, or just the paint?

I just bought a vacuum/pressure tester off of Glock37 a few weeks back at the Thompsontown GTG.....can't wait to use it.

Gonna do seals/bearing in my 064 in the coming weeks, I'll try it out before/after on that saw. ..

Luckily most leaks are confined to serviceable rubber items in two strokes. The oddball case crack, case gasket leak, etc. are usually the exceptions and can be tricky to find. If there’s an out -of-spec leak or noticeable running issue, replace as needed.

Scotty— those p/v kits are nice. Since you’ll be into an 1122, be mindful of the pto bearing seat area for play and the fw case half for cracks... seen a few 064s with problems there.

This is on an 064. The dealer did not have the flywheel side seal in stock, which is the one that is leaking. Both seals are around $35.

The rubber part of the seal or the lip of the seal should be facing the inside of the crankcase and the outside should be metal. Your picture is strange looking. Did someone put that seal in backwards or am I missing something there.

The seal is in the right way. The picture may be deceiving.

Nice. I have a gutted 064 oiler you can borrow if you’re going to use heat to set the bearings. Heck, I have Mattyo’s case sleeves if you wanna try those, too.

The AM seal kits for 660 may not include this fw side seal. Some do, some don’t. It may be the same size as 046 fw seals (not sure...). AM seals, in my opinion, are pretty good.

Take care when installing fw seals into 064s. Most 064 fws have a deeper set that, if the seal isn’t far enough, would quickly jeopardize the seal. I use a socket, but this is a nice case for oem tools. You can use the flywheel to guage how far the seal should be.
