Every time someone mentions hog hunting I immediately think of Uncle Ted and Aporkalypse.

There was a tv show about hog hunters......don't recall the name.
Followed a family for hire that did the hunting.

Lived in Florida for 10 years and the thing I miss most about there is hog and alligator hunting. The pork at the grocery store just can't compare to the wild stuff.

The dogs used to be the biggest part of the hunt, they were fearless to the wild hogs.

That's some good stuff right there. Maybe… maybe they should "re-locate" hogs to Yellowstone to help bring peace and harmony to the region. Oh, and Uncle Ted too…

I used to work with a guy that done that, After the other dogs tired out and bayed the pig, they would let the pit bull go. he would clamp down on the hogs head. then they would run and jump on the hog and a guy would take a bar and pry the pit bulls jaws off the hogs head. I used to laugh at his stories. this guy was a pretty tough dude so I believed every word he said. He actually made a video of it once. He tackled one in the waters edge in this video and the hog nearly took him and the dog under. about a 200 pound boar. The hog did get a piece of the dog. Had a big gash from the tusk. they sewed the dog up there, matter of fact he sewed hisself up once at work. I watched him. don't know how he cut himself. I used to tell him You're crazy...but I done it very nicely.lol He was a very nice guy though.

Ya it was a rush for sure, we never killed hogs unless someone from out of state was coming in that wanted to hunt one. We always kept them alive so we could butcher them when we wanted to do a hog roast. The only time we used a pure pit to hold the hog was for other hunters who wanted to shoot one. Otherwise we used pit/curr mixes to bay and we jumped in there and grabbed the hog. The race was always to see who could get to the hog first and grab the back legs. They are some nasty creatures and can put a hurtin on you or a dog in very little time. You learned that quickly, we caught lots of pigs and a few big ones too. I had one come out of a creek where the dogs had it bayed and run under me right between my legs faster than I could react. Seen many times a grown man scurry up a tree to avoid a pig coming at him.

I went hog hunting when I was right out of high school. Used a 300 WBY and a neck shot will put one down instantly. We did get a bluff charge from one that was close to mine. We went to get it out with a 4 wheeler and it chased the guy up standing on the seat.
