Been reading a lot of the threads. Have to order the pipe next week. Still wonder if i should put a clean out tee above the stove. The stove is a True North TN20, it is north south loading, pipe will go straight up. The pipe sits further back in this stove. Won't that make cleaning very awkward. If i install a cleaout tee just above the stove (stove is going to be very free standing) to open to the back for cleaning wouldn't that be better? I'm also wondering if i should put a damper in for strong updrafts, were on a hill side.
How tall are you going? What is it's minimumal distance? It looks kinda of like the NC30 that I've got. If you go straight up, cleaning should be a breeze. Disconnect the first segment or two and use a sooteater... As far as getting a damper..... it's a personal preference.... I've had one and not had one. As currently I dont....
Can't offer logistics on your set up but I can add two things from personal experience, one, I WISH we had a damper on our wood stove (edit, we have frequent sustained high winds), and also, out clean tee on our pellet furnace is too close to the floor to work with easily.
Is your chimney going to be on the low slope part of the roof or the High slope part? If it is going into the low slope part it's just as easy to get up there and clean from the top down
Minimum distance requirement for the stove is a 12' chimney. Ours will be 14'. Too high to get up there safely to clean from the top and don't really like going on the metal roof more than needed. We considered the NC 30 but liked the north south feeding and extra room for cook pots on top. The Tn is a bit deeper. Wildwest, that is what i'm thinking. You seem to have similar wind problem. The winds can be very erratic here and very strong. Just had 60 miles down winds going through last week. Though i don't have any burning experience yet, i doubt the draft would have been good. When the high winds come up the hill its the opposite and that is where they mostly come from. Cleaning out from inside is really low to the ground, we don't have a raised hearth. A cleanout could be put at a comfotable height to the back. there is plenty of room. The stove will stand well away from any wall. That way one wouldn't have to loosen the pipe every time like with a slip sleeve. Those Soot eaters do look practical.
Scotty, I have a question. The replies i sent are sometimes delayed a long time. Is that normal or is that because my internet is on exceed satelite?
HD Rock, the chimney will go through the high part about 10' from the ridge. The roof 4:12 so not very steep but still metal isn't like shingles and i can't put a ladder on the roof because there is no wood under the metal roof just sprayfoam insulation.
