Sweeeet! Did you build it up yourself? Is that a wildcat round. I don't believe I've heard of the 6.5 saum yet. Then again I've been so busy I've been out of the loop for a little while.
I had it built by GA Precision. The 6.5 saum is the brainchild of George Gardner it is a Remington short action ultra mag tweaked. It’s also known as 6.5 GAP 4S. This particular configuration is a one of one. Most are built on custom actions. I went a different route.
Very nice! Looks bad, and I mean that in a good way, of course! Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
Love the Cera kote treatment, too. Have never had a gun with that, but am considering doing my first.
It’s worth every penny. It’s tough as nails but as you can see after 4 hard seasons you can wear the coating off. So far I have had 3 guns coated , slowly getting them all done.
This was built by GA Precision of North Kansas City, MO all gun work preformed by them minus the paint and Tally rings. Built using a unfired Winchester Model 70 270WSM stainless. Its a 6.5 SAUM (GAP 4S) with a .081 freebore. Action was blueprinted and trued, 24 inch Bartlein #3 deep flutes, with Vais micro brake. Manners MSC-T stock, PTG bottom metal and custom milled by GAP with a custom spring and follower...case specific. Extreme texture using Devon or Steeltex (don't remember) on the pistol and for grips and was custom painted using Duracoat by Custom Gun Coatings. The gun and scope was sent to Tally to get the ring height satisfactory to GAP's standards. IIRC it was 4 ro 5 trips before George was happy with how the scope sat on the rifle. Scope is a March 3x24 FFP/ FML-1/ Mil / Mil.
George also brainchild the 6.5 PRC that Hornady et.al is currently fielding. George is the man...there are many products in the field that has his mark on.
I do love the winchester model 70 in a classic action, I have one in a 300 Weatherby and I also have a model 70 pre-64 featherweight in a 30.06
Agreed, the Win m70 is a nice smooth action. I have the above, a 338 win mag also built by George, and a unfired store bought 300 win mag Extreme Weather.
Sounds like you're a winchester man as well. I'd love to one in a 338 win mag. I also have a 300 win mag model 70 and a 220 swift model 70 heavy varmint. And wow is that swift accurate I once shot a dime sized group at 300 yards with it and that was with factory Hornady 60 grain hollow points. I now hand load have not shot it at 300 yards yet but I can put 3 in one hole at 100 yards.
I do.. I do own other brands. I grew up Remington....about a 18-20 years ago was my last Rem purchase. One day in the local gun shop, staring at the gun rack back behind the counter, I noticed that Rem no longer had nice looking guns, was obvious that Win and Browning pulled ahead. Then I worked the bolt and was blown away at smoothness. Started looking at fit and finish....that's a steep hill to climb to reach the Win. Hard to beat a good looking American Walnut stock and deep bluing.
Once you get one you'll love it and wondered how you did without. As for the winchester's I'll never buy another new one as now they are made in Portugal. The only ones that I look for are the one's made in New Haven. I think that the quality and fit and finish went down hill when they closed that plant and made their first move to North Carolina.
Your title, pew-pew-pew, all that came to mind was that goofy girl on storage wars that always said it with a dorky look on her face!!!!
