Thanks for the input. The more we think about it the more sense it makes to make the transition northwest. I will definitely keep that in mind.

I've lived here my whole life and I'm used to dealing with the snow. I even own massive equipment for dealing with it.
In 5-10 years I plan on retiring and the one and only reason I'll be relocating is the snow. I'm actually just starting to look for property in northern PA mountain country . They get very little snow just 50 miles SW of me.
I laugh at those who move here and the first couple of snow storms in Nov and Dec their kids are out making snowmen and the folks are watching out the window with hot coffee in hand saying
" how festive of a winter wonderland we now live in "!!! By the end of March they are asking the locals " WTF ???!!!! When does this crap end ???"
East coasters get a nor'easter and the snow is gone in a week or so. Those 2 miserable lakes give us almost a daily dose and 1-2 footers are oftentimes an every 7-10 day event .
I relish the day when I can take a walk in the woods in the winter in less than 6" of snow and not plow/shovel daily.
Take a map and draw a line about 50 miles inland from Lake Erie and Ontario and look south of that line for properties.
Bath, Corning , and the southern Finger Lakes region is low snow mountain area with lots of back country not far from amenities AND no stink farms.

Elk or Forest Co would be ideal.
McKean or Potter would be a close second

    Nice !
We spend time in Marienvlle, Benezett and Coudersport every year.
Haven't spent any amount of time in McKean except to see the Kinzua bridge.

All nice areas. I think our favorite is Benezett
