Oh yeah I agree. Those big ones are better to be released in my opinion and make a great fishing story to tell. I enjoy eating fish I catch but Im also big into single barbless hook catch and release fly fishing as well. Ive been teaching my 12 year old son how to carefully release trout. A nice 20 inch trout on the bbq or in the smoker is nice and tender and great eats compared to a tough biggen. We also have some nice sized bull trout out here that get pretty big. Different fish (kinda) but same category as your ocean run dollies. Yup those kokanee were real good. I do them up lots of different ways but this time it was simple. In a fry pan with a bit of Mrs Dash and some lemon.
No, it's really just a sockeye or red salmon. Ahh, I've crushed a few Kokanee's myself. Tonight, burning some white pine chunky monkeys in the quadrafire. It's rainy and cool outside, so the chill is taken away with the fire.
Simple is the best. Sheesh man, I’m just salivating and we’re not even in the Smokehouse... now steelhead. If you get a chance to fish for those.....
I actually met my wife in Whistler BC on a ski trip, while crushing said Kokanee's. I guess I didn't make too much of an a$$ of myself as she moved to Wisconsin from Portland Oregon about a year after that.
Thats cool Horkn! I met my wife 25 years ago in Whistler as well! I was living there at the time. A good friend of mine convinced me to come meet her and 2 of her pretty friends in town to act as their tour guide while they were in the area . I was in. As a side note I was on a solo back packing trip in the alpine for 4 days before that. I almost didnt come back to town as I was so into what I was doing up in the mountains that meeting girls was secondary for me. I told myself to snap out of it and act my age. Glad I did!
very nice! Im jealous. The only time I did that was in Tofino on Vancouver Island with my dad and my grandpa. I was about 5 or 6 so it was still the 70s. I remember a few things about that trip. One was that I was freaked out because I walked through the brush and was covered in hornets although I didnt get bit. Two I remember seeing my grandpa without a shirt on standing on a rock casting into the rushing water. I was amazed that he was so into it that he didnt seem to care that his bare back was covered in mosquitoes. I dont think we caught any steal head that day.
Anyways...clear and 44° outside. I would say its close to 70-75 inside. Very comfortable. I tried some cherry this evening. Worked perfectly, burned very well. Smelled very good just in the beginning as I opened the door and threw wood in. Gonna love that more later on.
Never know, I usually seal sorts of critters. I have posted a few pix in the off topic and game room section.
Its a mild 2c here. The stove is getting close to a reload of doug fir. FatBoy85. A client of mine has a blow down cherry tree on his property that he said I can have. Im thinking of keeping it for cooking wood since fruit woods are so hard for us to get here. I notice when I visit the coast there are lots of cherry trees around.
