Made me think of a story...

Some years back I was down in Maine for Christmas. One of my high school friends has a camp on Long Lake and a bunch if us decided to spend a few days out there.

Seemed like a good idea until it got down to -20*... The camp isn't really insulated.
We had the stove pretty much glowing but 15 ft from the stove it was freezing.

We had all the chairs around the stove. Go to sleep and get woke up by something crashing... Someone had fallen asleep while sitting on a wood chair and the heat had melted the glue out of it, whole back came off the bottom!

Reminds me of my Dad's Deer Hunting Cabin. He made a wood stove out of a 36 " piece of pipe. It was a beast!, connected to a galvanized stove pipe painted black that was connected to an old one brick withe chimney. Galvanized slipped early on. I told him that was bad, but he was old school and poo poo my cautions away. The thing glowed red and the wood around the old chimney was to hot to touch. I have no idea how we didn't burn the old cabin down but never did and was never cold. My brother still has the cabin and still uses the wood stove. He has replaced the stove pipe and tuck pointed the chimney and still burns it hard.
