Stihl 460 Decompression Valve Problem - I think!!!

    Every new Stihl I've ever sold/serviced/run with a properly working decomp does not reset (close) the valve until the engine fires. Same for any other brand other than some Chinese machines I've been playing with.

    Not as much exp as MM but everything I have played with did the same.

    I meant open, but yes pushing the button down does open the valve.

    I re-read above and I didn't explain correctly. The valve doesn't close with EVERY pull, but also don't always stay open either.

    Honestly I've never given it much thought. I just have gotten in the habit of reaching over with my thumb between each pull to make sure its still down.

    I picked up the replacement decomp valve from my dealer today and this one is definitely tighter than the first one they gave me. I guess even Stihl can make a bad part now and then! :whistle:

    Put it in the saw and it's working perfect now, valve is staying open as usual until it fires! :thumbs:
