Oh. That's what he meant by clinkers. The bottles clinking together. Now I get it.

Just cleaned the venting about a week ago. I usually pull the combustion blower impeller and clean it good when I clean the venting but I didn't have time when I cleaned the venting a week ago. I will pull it this weekend.

Edit: I always pull the combustion blower plate and stick a 2" paintbrush down the exhaust path to clean the sides of the exhaust path a bit making sure not to touch the esp. I also use the same paintbrush and brush the combustion blower impeller and then take the shop back with a brush head attachment and clean up the combustion blower area.

I always stick a flashlight down the exhaust path to confirm no blockages. At the end of the year I pull the esp and clean the exhaust path within the stove to the clean out tee.

Part of the reason why I want to buy some more pellets right now is just to confirm whether or not it is a pellet issue or stove issue. Other reason is I just want more pellets just because I know there is a shortage right now. Oink!

    Clinkers... I hate clinkers... :)

I have had some recent clinkage in both stoves. I also attribute it to running them pretty hard. I have some pellets I have been burning for 3 years and they are creating some small clinkers. They are not super hard. They break apart rather easy, but they are solid.

More fuel will need more air, although the combustion blower is designed to give more air with the addition of more pellets, sooner or later the ash in the pot begins to reduce some of the air.

That's my thought? Or maybe the rotation of the earth is off? Cause it sure has been cold!! :)

If a clinker is the turd hanging off the side of the pot, then I'm looking at an Lg softwood clinker. Don't mind them, the middle of the pot stays clean, they just run on the sides.

Typically, they are hard black chunks that sit in the bottom of the pot, and start cutting off burn air. I had some a few years ago before realizing I needed to increase burn air when running the stove on higher settings. Here's what I had back then:

What I am referring to as a clinker is a small clump about the size of a pen cap that sits right in front of the burning pellets and on top of the combustion air holes. When I scrape the burn pot and pull the ash off the front, is when I typically see it. And it is glowing red. I haven't dug one out of the ash pan though so I'm not sure what they look like when they cool down.

Is what I am describing a clinker or is it something else?

Edit: Maybe a pen cap isn't a good description. Perhaps one of those small tootsie rolls or a jolly rancher would be more accurate.

Almost sounds to me like you're describing carbon buildup. I have to chip it out of my burn pot every week.

Maybe it a carbon chunk that is building up in front of the burning pellets. Never had it before so I assumed it was a "clinker.". I know that I do scrape out the carbon buildup that accumulates between the auger tube and the first couple rows of holes closest to the auger.

That carbon build up is anticipated, your scraper is for that. However, while I got it with MWP and AWF pellets, I haven't seen it with the Blazers. The Harman burns whatever I have put in it without slowing down.

I don't think this is carbon. Tonight I scraped the pot and carefully removed the item of discussion. See attached picture. This one was a little smaller than usual. Usually it is a little bit longer and narrower. It is pretty hard but I can break it apart pretty easily with just my fingers. The tile it is sitting in is 6"x6".

Again, this sits right on the front edge of the burning pellets and does not require any scraping or chipping to remove.

Here is what qualifies as a clinker.
