Yep, It showed up today, the MS290 that Chvymn99 had listed here on FHC. The saw came completely as advertised and the transaction was flawless.

I have been excited to cut with this saw for 2 weeks now and I can't even start it. My shoulder has got me bound up good. I did have a co worker start it and cut with it and that was bittersweet. I'll keep icing it and taking Alieve and hopefully be able to report back how nice it is to cut with a saw twice the size as the one I use now.

    Keep cutting!

Bummer, hope your shoulder heals right up. I have both an 029 and a Schindy 360. I started with the 029. The bigger saw is obviously has more power but I'll tell you that you will still enjoy picking up that 360 and zipping through the smaller diameter wood. I got the 360 because I was sick of holding/carrying the 029 around in the woods when clearing trails or doing other maintenance, non production type wood cutting. Each saw has its place. The 360 is just so much more pleasant to carry around.

That's gotta suck - have a new tool and can't use it yet. Give your shoulder the time it needs, though. I was amazed and delighted when I graduated from
a tiny Poulan 110 to the MS290 for all firewood things. It is still my only saw except for a limbing Echo 306.

Good luck with that shoulder. Mine took 6 months to heal. But then I'm a lot older and out of shape. It won't get better if you over do it. If it needs surgery, it should be within 3 months of the injury. Hope you feel better soon. If not, go get checked out soon.

The Echo CS-306 is no rip-snorter fast cutter, but has been reliable and is very light in the hands. I paid $200 for it new at a retail shop and had them put 12" bar and chain on it instead of the standard 14". Even the wife gets a kick out of cutting with the 306.

Go easy man… and, didn't you go at it hard last weekend? I remember thinking your pics showed a h@ll of a lot of bulling in a day … When I've tried to do that (cause I know I can)… I find out, I can't. Not anymore… got 2 speeds, slow and slower… :tree:

    I have an idea.
Instead of all of us waiting on your review
just ship the saw out to all of us interested forumistas and we'll keep you informed on how it's working out for all of us instead.
Saws just can't sit on a shelf you know.

Those middle age nagging injuries are a killer. Got a few of them myself. Heal first, play later!

The shoulder has been borderline for quite some time, I think after scrounging the first couple truckloads it put it over the top. Lifting from ground to waist, not too bad, putting on a shirt, WOHA, tought stuff there. In the meantime, I gotta build a H frame sawbuck, most of the ash is too long for my stove. :( That should be a good workout for the new Stihl. I just wish I had checked the rounds ahead of time, live and learn.

I do love the little Shindy, it just feels nice. What more can I say, kind of like an old pocketknife.

I hope your shoulder heals up quickly. That's no fun when you have plans like you do to build up your stash.

Slow and easy for a while.

OK, so today I built a H frame buck since I had a couple rounds get by me that were too long. Started stacking some of the pile and placing the longs in the buck. Got it about 3/4 of the way full and decided to try to start the MS290 left handed. Success! tore through the longs like a beast. I'm still taking it easy, and going slow, and also made a Dr appt for Monday. Seeing the same sports med Dr. that treated my knees and elbow. I just need confirmation that I'm not doing more damage as I slowly try to heal with ice, NSAID's and exercise.

Hang in their Keith. Shoulders are a strange thing. The saddest part is that I know of too many who have had surgery then within a year or two had to have it done all over again. I was advised to have shoulder surgery about 10 years ago. You might say I'm procrastinating a bit but I don't like the sound of the knife. My wife had one done in 2007 and she's gripped about it ever since. I go occasionally to a massage therapist and so far, so good. I also use the ThermaCare heat wraps a lot and that really helps. Had one on yesterday even when it started acting up. Took care of the pain quite fast.

As for the 290, you'll love it. We've had ours over 10 years now and last year added the little 180 which I'm loving even more!

Feel better, Keith. I have constant shoulder pain and I know how bad it can be. Two Aleve for me today and it barely takes the edge off. Physical therapy helped. Arthritis and torn shoulder muscles are not much fun. Take it easy and don't try to overdo it too soon.
