I can tell you they dye it bright red in Indiana as well. If you get caught with it, well, it's $10,000 first of all, then they take the mileage on your truck divided by the city mpg rating and you pay sales tax on every gallon that has been ran through the truck, even if your truck has a million miles on it. Oh, it's great....somewhere I probably still have a copy of such fine.....and I had farm plates, grew up on a farm, was on a county road pulling a grain head in the middle of nowhere in the middle of switching fields. I guess the idea works cause the $14k sting was enough for me to say....I think I'll just pay the tax on it from now on. I honestly didn't use it all the time, but in the middle of harvest or planting, if I was low on fuel, I'd just pull up to the tank rather than driving the 15 minutes to town. There are two kinds of farmers when it comes to off road fuel, those who use it on the road, and those who will TELL you they never have...

Not sure if they are available for the Eco diesel, but I run the nanonet Mopar filters in my cummins, it has a 5 micron outer layer and a 3 micron inner layer. I order them 6 at a time from Geno's garage. The smallest hole I know of in an injector is 40 micron, so you are correct, I don't think the injectors are something to worry about, at least not from the perspective of clogging the nozzles from dirty fuel. The system is designed for the lift pump (typically inside the tank) to be the weakest link for good reason, a lift pump is cheaper to replace than an injection pump. One thing I always do right off the bat is install a fuel pressure gage of some sort to monitor line pressure between the lift pump and the injection pump. One of the fastest ways to toast an injection pump is force it to pull fuel through a dead lift pump. I'm on my 13th Cummins Ram now, I'm interested to learn the ins and outs of the Eco. Maybe when I quit pulling heavy trailers I'll jump on the Eco, but like I've said, I'm kind of brand biased as I work for Chrysler.

Around here they usually leave the farmers alone. At least with the county sheriff's deputies anyway...not sure about ISP. I know plenty of guys bleeding red on their farm trucks and semis and have never had a tank dipped.

The marine fuel in NY is dyed bright pink. Not sure if it is supposed to be "red", but it looks pink, almost florescent. Home heating oil is the standard greenish color and is much cheaper (about a dollar per gallon less). If you get caught with green diesel in your boat, it's something like a $10k fine, and they can take your boat. I've never seen anyone checked or tested, and I don't want to ever see it. ;) I've been boarded by the US Coast Guard many times (usually about once a year) and they check permits, gear, safety gear.... but they have never asked or even checked about fuel. It would take them all of about 10 seconds to check as I (and most diesel boats) have clear glass centripetal water separators on my secondary fuel filters. So you can clearly see about 1 quart of fuel going into each engine. Those sight glasses are going to stay pink on my boat! ;)

Wow, that's killer. It's the other way around here, about 20 to 25 cents higher for diesel at all the local gas stations. The fuel prices on the satellite software (I forget the name of the app in the truck...?) is really nice. I LOVE that application, I just defaulted it to diesel fuel and it shows me the cheapest and closest gas stations with diesel and there prices....

Mine made it up the hill fine :)

To comment on the EcoDiesel. I have almost 23,000 on my Dodge EcoDiesel now and I average about 26 MPG. We went to the Outer Banks for vacation this year and this was my average. My wife got up to 28.3 MPG while driving, but I drive a little different ;)

(Pic was taken in July, so add about 2,000 miles)

Edit: This is with my family of 4 and all the gear for a week stay (1,000 lbs in the bed? Between coolers, clothes, gear, etc)

Way better mileage than my work truck with the 6 cyl. Those who didn't remember I have a 2016 crew or quad cab (whatever their verbage is?) 4x4 with the 6cyl. My average is 17ish mpg. I idle a good bit but everything else is highway miles pretty much.

    How you been Dex?

She was cruising to get 28.3. But I wanted to get home and it was raining, so it was locked in 4wd and I wanted out of the truck after almost 12 hrs.

We rented a fusion hybrid this summer for our trip to Chicago. Got 40mpg averaging 80 on the highway. This new stuff is impressive.
