I'm not sure what a strummer is but it doesn't sound like something you'd want to put near an angry wasps nest...

I fell off of my bicycle last summer and put a heck of a ding in my strummer. Walked funny for three weeks.

Ouch. I have found a couple bees nest while working on the trail with the tractor. Luckily they were not stinging me.

What area of New York State you from English?

Wasps, and especially bees are very difficult to outrun. The best thing I've ever found is to run and peel off a shirt and start waving it around your head as you are running. They will stop...and soon you can too.

But fear not, it will work when you are standing still too.
