We are having an issue now with our 96 lb bulldog boy. He has apparently ingested a LARGE volume of oak bark from when I was bucking and splitting this weekend. He has been vomiting water and food and lost all appetite for about 2 days. Lost 10 lb in 2 days.

Please take some time to read the articles below and not have this happen to your pets...

We initially thought he had a blockage in his bowel, thats why we took him in. It was an 8 hour ordeal going to our vet, being sent to the Emergeny/specialty/animal hospital an hour and a half away from home for a ultrasound. Our vet took an xray and saw what he thought was a tumor on spleen. The ultrasound showed its a cyst on one of his kidneys. The cyst has crushed his kidney rendering it useless. This is why the oak was such an issue as he is working on one kidney. So he goes in next thursday to have the bad kidney out and in the mean t ime apetite is improving and he isnt vomiting. I love my dogs.

Hopefully your boy is tip top shortly.

My pit eats oak everything constantly, and the little one used to bring me acorns all the time as a puppy, but never ate them. We have evidently been lucky so far.

Never knew Oak was an issue, thank you for sharing!

That's great that he's doing better. I never heard of that before.

My dogs like to chew/ eat wood. I'll have a bit of red oak in my stacks this year. I'll have to make sure they don't chew on any oak.

I never knew that either. Scary to think about.
My dogs are always drinking oak laden water puddles.

I hope the growth in the kidney is just a cyst.
My parents dog had the same symptoms and early prognosis but was pre cancerous.
He went over 3 years with one kidney before the cancer took over.

Never heard of this either. Neighbor's dog ate toads, he started foaming at the mouth and got real sick. She had to keep him muzzled outside or he would eat toads all the time!
