Last April to today. The splitter isn't on the tractor currently, so I just noodled off the knarlies and I'll split the last bit sometime this winter. Got three ranks out of it, 2-2 1/2 cord. I've never done that much noodling before, you can really burn through the gas that way!!
The first picture with the big rounds was an old pine tree from a local cemetery. It had died from disease and the tree service dropped the trunk off in my yard. Those are now the three newer ranks in the last picture, the ranks are on the left in the second picture. To the right, in the second picture, that darker wood is mulberry. There's another rank of honey locust going in front of those right now. That will all sit on that cement for the next year and it should be in great shape for 18-19 burning. There are two ranks of mixed ash, locust, pine, and apple behind them that have been sitting there for a year and will be going in the stove this winter. There will be close to seven cord there by the time the locust is ranked, but it is over half pine.
I did have hydraulic help for some of it. (thought you might enjoy the pictures again) But several of the rounds were too knotty for the splitter to work, they just crumbled up into junk. So I got to do a bunch of noodling I'd never really done that before, it was interesting watching how the noodles changed to normal dust and back again as the chain cut through different grain.
Man those are big blocks separating those two piles there! Looking good! What's likely to be burned this year?
