So I have a lot of wood to split during winter and I want my ducks in a row before the snow flies. I had these telephone poles laying around now for quite awhile and I decided to split them down the middle and use them for my new stacks. They are not real big around and are 16' long which is about 2/3 of a cord for me. I split 2 of them so far and I think they are going to work great.
great idea!!! I have started using the 4X4 top T posts that they hang the actual power lines from as my stack base. Easy to handle, and readily available not too far from me.
Yep I know what your talking about I have some wood stacked on those already. When I can get them they work very well. The cross arms.
Ahhh haaa! Man after me own heart! Ask around the nearby line crews if you see them for old cross arms they are 8' or sometimes 10' if you get lucky and roughly 3"x4" .
I believe when all said and done I will have around 15 to 16 cord. That will almost put me to a 4 year supply.
The saw is a old Homelite that looked like it had a tree fall on it. Jut another freeby that someone was throwing away. It is fun sometimes to get the old ones out.
The saw has a manual oiler only with external oil lines. On the first pole that I split the oil line broke and I had to get another. I found a used oil line on ebay and we are back in business again. Those oil lines are small copper lines. The hand bar is red but the original was blue but had been crushed and bent.
So im trying to just get this correct, the oiler is manual for the bar? Like you have to pump oil as you cut??
Indeed. This is what many of us grew up with. That and no chain brakes either. Heavy saws, etc., etc.
