My daughter wanted to do some videos while we work. Aka easier to video then toss wood. So here is a vid of me using the Husqvarna large splitting axe, the Husqvarna maul and S2800. As well as the fiskars x25 and Makita 3601. In the background is my pickaroon and log tongs.

She did a great job on the video. No offense, but I'm wore out after watching you process.

Trying not to sound like a jerk here, I split with hydraulics. Is it common practice to let the axe or maul dig into the ground? Looks like you have plenty of wood split there so your doing something right. I love my woodsplitter! We have spent many hours together.

Depends on the ground. I usually split on a short log. As long as it is not rocky soil it is not bad. It saves time from stacking each piece. I usually keep a pretty resilient angle on my splitting tools. Razor sharp does not last long especially on supper hard hickory knots. Lol
I also check my blade edge after every use and sharpen if needed. That is just one pile of 4. I like splitting wood. Just don't get to very often. I have thought about a lot splitter but just can't justify it yet since I still enjoy splitting by hand.

I try to keep my maul/X27 out of the ground. I use a short round to accomplish this.

Cool video! Using a big round as a chopping back will do your back good. Will allow you to strike the wood when axe is at point of most momentum as well.
