    I'm debating fixing my dryer.

The motor went out over the weekend. Prices it and it's $135 for the part. Straight forward so I was going to replace it since I replaced the belt a few years ago.

New base line dryer is in the $450 range so I'm on the fence on which way to go. The store will do 3 months no interest on the new one which makes the new one look even better, but I have a long list of other things is like to upgrade in the kitchen too.

    Hmmm.

Our fridge is about 5-6 years old, and the door has sagged almost since new, and the light quit working a couple years ago. I think it's the switch, but I really don't wanna' mess with it.
Other than that, it's perfect.

Our fridge started getting warm a few weeks ago, and its not that old...I did a little investigation on it and found it was likely the main control board was bad...over $200 from the dealer. I found the part # on one of those online appliance part places...then went shopping...I found 'em on ebay for $75 shipped...brand new, OEM. Got the board a couple days later, put it in and programmed, wahlah...cold fridge!
Glad to hear Jr is OK...hate those kind of phone calls!

Old dryer is probably better quality than a new one...quality on new appliances just continues to drop...

Here in Ashtabula County, most farmer's only got in two cuttings because of rain. First wasn't done for some til the first week of August. Some hay has been made the past week though. Dry as heck here.

We use the "50%" rule at work. If parts and labor are near half the cost of a new one, we will buy new. Appliance labor repair just for the service guy to show up is $100. That's a big step towards new.

I have a generator that needs run as a quarterly test and an impeller on a pump that needs shimmed. I'll mess with that this afternoon instead.

I will never go away from top load washers, and old style driers again. At my last house, we only had room for stacked washer and dryer. Went with a front load HE washer. First one lasted 7 years and the drum failed. I replaced that one with a Maytag. 10 months into the 12 month warranty the drum failed on that one. Then within 6 months it started going again, and within 2 years it completely failed and had to be replaced AGAIN. I bought a Samsung that time, and it was still going 2 years later when I left it behind. The drier made it the long haul, but for the last several years, it would often turn off within 5-10 minutes of starting. It had a humidity sensor that would always shut off about 10-15 minutes too soon too.

My new house came with the old style top loader, and when that dies, it will be replaced with the same again, all dials and switches. Im sure theres a board back there, but no touch pads.

Yep, I've had some newer fancy water saving washer/dryer sets since 2004, glad for the reduced water usage, but :headbang:, I still need it to run and dry stuff even when it "senses" its done but in reality is still damp. Gimme a break! Last dryer was some solenoid or starter looking thing that was $40 a pop (ya did that myself after first service call). This dryer I mostly use the "timed cycle", so far so good, but the buttons suck for those with vascular issues :picard: I miss sticking a wooden spoon handle into the old top load washers switch with the lid open to add cleaning products during wash cycles or simply add other cleaning products, or even turning the dial off to let things soak longer. Oh well.

Today was work the real job early, then sleep. Then I took the backhoe off the tractor, installed three point hitch equipment and attached brush hog and cut for about an hour. At that point it was too hot and sun was too high in the sky. Back to the air conditioning! Slept some more while it was too hot and then went back out after dinner and cut some more for another hour or so. Made some progress. Tractor running well. :tractor:

Haven't had a fire yet, House isn't cool at all so far. I'm anxious to get some fires going just to get the humidity down

Got the fridge tore down and ready for parts. It was a solid block off ice around the evaporator. Not sure if the heating element or thermostat failed but they are both getting replaced along with the circulation fan.

Shot the bow a little before dark. I have to work up in WI opening weekend though.
