Sometimes luck finds you. Smells like sugar maple, arborist called it sugar maple, leaves look like sugar maple.. Details later this evening. I'm busy wallowing in thankfulness and joy.
yup classic sugar maple... that weird rot comes because these tress tend to grow in clumps eventually I tree dies and rots in other one.. bottom (3rd pic) you can see where one branch girdles one next to it and left a hole.. squirrels and birds love them for that reasom... great heat for in 2 years!
Still worked up over our great fortune here at the Papi homestead. So I got a phone call and a couple texts this morning from "my wood guy" who has hooked me up plenty. Says he has a guy subcontracting for a buddy of his, looking for a spot to dump some wood. He wanted it, but is too tight on space at the moment, so can they dump it here? I got the messages, said Freakin OF COURSE they can unload here. Came home from work to find a good size pile, and a single axle log truck with a claw following me into the drive with another load! Talk about stoked. Driver and I exchanged pleasantries, I tried to give him a case of beer, but he refused citing a law regarding driving the commercial vehicle with beer in it. Had to raid the wife's wallet for cash, but managed enough to cover a case and a pizza for the evening for the awesome guy. Going to have to take care of my wood guy, too. What a score. Not sure how much it'll measure out to, but it's got to be five cord considering the log size. I got to watch him work magic with that claw, he was very confident and got every log laid just where he wanted it, though the big one that's hollow at the base tipped the truck a little, even with his beams planted firmly on the ground. I've got a cool picture of it in the air, but want to blurb out the phone number on the side of the truck since I didn't ask permission to post it online.
No free wood delivered on trucks with knuckleboom loaders here. :-( and I have room for one to get in and out with no overhead wires to worry about.
Wait for it! Wait for it! You better pucker up because you suck ! Nice BTU's in that Maple and can't beat the price or delivery charge. Now :stacke: . Have fun and be safe.
Having the space definitely helps - it doesn't look like it from the pics but there's close to an acre of flat area here that makes it possible to get big stuff in and out comfortably. Half of it's covered in wood now, but it's all good.
Gahhhdzoooks! What a whooping flopping .....pile of dang ol' wood there man!!! Hahaha Have fun with that one!!!
