Here's the trick to backing a trailer: line yourself up straight. Then put your vehicle in reverse, and back uo SLOWLY with your hand on the BOTTOM of the steering wheel (move your hand the way you want the trailer to go). Physically look behind you, and steer by only moving your hand less than 6 inches at a time, and then return it to the bottom after giving input for a few seconds at a time. Most important is go slowly, and put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. You'll be backing like a champ in no time!

Can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning...

Reminds me of a traffic crash many years ago in my law enforcement days. A lady dropped her kids at school, and stopped at the 4-way stop. As she proceeded into the intersection, someone else ran the stop sign and broadside her car. During the subsequent investigation, her bloodshot, watery eyes led to her getting blood alcohol testing....where she blew over a .40!!!!! Most of us would be hospitalized at that point, but she was standing there, conversing, sober as a judge. Her mom responded to the scene, and disclosed that her daughter is a functioning alcoholic, and starts her morning off with a pint of vodka before getting out the door. If she doesn't load up, she would have tremors, shakes and be physically ill. Sad........she was arrested for DUI but it was eye opening as to what the body can function on as "normal."

I think it would be an aam 11.5" axle that's what's in most of the modern diesels. It could also be a Dana 80 in the rear.

I am pretty good at backing trailers up because when I first started cutting wood it was 4 foot pulpwood. In order to stuff the log trailer around two rocks and a tree pushed by a tractors, you learned quick!! But here is the embarrassing part; I cannot use mirrors. Because I have always had the opportunity to crank my head around, I did. When I back up with mirrors I am all screwed up. I know it is just backwards of what I see, but I struggle.

Yep, thats all in how you learn. I grew up driving wreckers, I would use mirrors, but could cheat and turn and look back if I needed. Then I got into heavy wreckers, and tractors with sleepers, and that wasnt an option anymore. Its been 10 years since I last drove a truck, and I still dont use the back window period. Every vehicle that I drive regularly has the rear view mirror folded up and out of the way.

The funny thing is I was really good at mirror welding when I worked at the shipyard because US Navy Destroyers have to be 100% welded...even a broom rack. It often meant getting into tight places where the only way to see was with a mirror.

At first I struggled, then I got laid off and had to be a laborer. They had us down in the bilge sucking up paint chips one day, then the next we were painting pipes in the engine room. Everyone was slapping on the paint and making a mess, so I though, 'if I do a good job, tomorrow I will be painting and not sucking up chips down in the bilge and instead they will be', so I did a really good job. That is just what happened so for the next month I painted, but here was the thing, in order to get behind tight fitting pipes, I taped a mirror to a handle and then dabbed paint where it needed to go. A month of that and then I returned to welding. I found after that I could mirror weld. It was like a switch, I would start welding, then something would switch in my brain, and my hands would start doing the opposite of what I was seeing.

There was a downside to that. When the boss finds out a welder can mirror weld well, they got ALL the mirror welds!
