Well I let my Jack Russell Benny run each day on the farm for an hour or so, then he comes in .. He loves to chase the rabbits through the tall grass in the unmowed areas here. We put either a powder on for ticks or use essential oil like lemon, or citronella. That goes on before he goes out.. Usually comes in with any wheres between 4 to 8 ticks, just crawling looking for a spot we missed... Well tonight after an hour he came in with the bumper crop... Makes me not want to walk in the tall grass and I know better. Ticks here are getting bad with the fall weather staying so warm... Well this is what was on Benny after only an hour of running this evening...
Wow, that really is bad. Thankful we don't that problem up here,,,,,,,yet. With the climate changing I am sure it won't be too long before we do have it much like heart worm made its way here several years ago.
Glad I use a tree stand here hunting... I can only imagine setting up a ground blind in some tall grass here... You'd be covered... Once the cold sets in they'll be gone , for now... I think the having warm winters the last 2 years has help increase the tick population here and very low snow fall amounts..
I hope we get a really cold winter this year. Maybe it would help kill some of those off. That is one reason I wait until we have had a couple of good frost before I start cutting wood. Bugs. The next one is heat. Neither of them after a few good frost.
I try to get my firewood inside my woods, really not much brush inside the wooded area's for tick... Plus I spray my chaps down with vinegar , water and some essential oil like lemon, peppermint , clove .. Anything that is strong to the smell,, boots too... I'm always aware of my surroundings.. If I walk through a section of brush, I look at my legs right away for crawlers, but 99% stay out of it... December here with no snow on the ground is great firewood harvesting for me..
Its nice to get some frost in the ground, keeps the trails from getting dug up and its great for skidding logs
