:picard: Likely cheaper, and a whole lot easier to just buy an electric chainsaw.

Wow! He just invented the electric chainsaw! 20K worth of equipment to build something he could have purchased for $100. Lime they say in the Valley; Whateveeer!

Smart enough to use cutting oil on the drill press but no provisions for bar oil...

That is a neat idea, but the thing I was thinking about the whole time is if it kicked back there isn't a good enough handle to hold on and it would go flying.

I don't think the guy that made the video was serious, just one of those videos for the fun of it. What I worry is someone copying. That thing is dangerous as can be.

I really don't see how it's that dangerous, it's an electric chainsaw , minus a brake and an oilier :zip:

Some differences in the geometry for sure. No wrap handle, no back handle really. It would not take much of a pinch or kickback event to make it turn around and come after you.

Now, if this thing was the difference between me getting off the island and not..... well.... heck yeah I'm going for it!

You would think that anybody who just fab'd all that would have the know-how for the basic care and feeding of the infernal combustion engine in the saw and the ability to make some basic repairs!!

I know a guy make any part you want as long as you give a drawing with specs on it. But as far as mechanical gut ability, definitely got the short end of the straw.
