Got some more done yesterday, another cord split and stacked. 1 skid is locust the other 2 cherry. Now it's all locust and oak that needs split. I'm hoping the rest if it is at least three more cord but not sure if it is. That would get me back to having three years split and stacked. Right now with the way this year has gone my stacks have really gone down. Need to update my signature, think I lost a rank on the FHC club.
Nice looking wood! Looks like you way ahead of me this year..... After looking at your pics you may want to change your name to Pallet Pete when your updating your signature....
I do love the pallet racks, need to make a change for next hear though as my pallets all froze to the ground this year. Will be putting some runners or another pallet under them for next year.
With all due respect, good sir (methinks I should say that 'cause you're a mod), I propose that's no loss of rank due to burning the wood you created for heating a space. Think of those empty stack spaces (whose wood you used for this winter) as "credits" because we know they will be refilled. If you don't refill them in TWO years, then ya get a hoarder demotion. IOW, a 1.5 year 'grace period'. How about it?
I like it. But I'm not too worried about it as I should have them filed back up here soon, I'm down to about 11 cord stacked but should be back to 15 here soon. Stacked a cord yesterday and split about another 1.5 so far today. Gotta go work a bit then I'll be back to stack that stuff. Lettin a friend use my splitter this afternoon so might split some red oak by hand for some fun and exercise.
I like the looks of your stacking system as well. May build a few of those this summer as I have access to a lot of pallets. Have you ever considered screwing a sheet of pole barn metal to the top of those to keep the rain off. I would think that would make the perfect outdoor storage system.
This will be my first year stacking on some pallets. Since my property is limited for stacking and drying, I may use a small portion of the driveway to stack a cord on, pallets seems like the best option. I like how you get two decent rows and then use a single piece at the end to hold the row in place.
Yes thought about it but haven't come across any metal to use. Currently I use a mixture of rubber roofing and the tarps that are used to wrap lumber. They work pretty good but the metal would last longer.
Looks good Swags! I like the pallet idea - if I had forks for my tractor I could then simply move each pallet of wood to my staging area in early fall. Would greatly reduce the handling.
Got some more done today, the first pile is oak and the second is locust. Oak is now stacked and next is the locust.
I thought this pile would keep me busy a little longer though. If I get another good work day on it I'll have to go get more wood to bring home.
