This was an old post but the guy updated the comments recently so the saw is still sitting on the shelf. Might be a good buy for someone if they wanted to contact the guy. Anyway, how about some armchair diagnosis from the husky guys on here. I have already read through the comments on the video. I will copy the description below the video. Published on Sep 29, 2012 Just out of the box Husky 455 Rancher 20-inch bar starts up fine but then dies. I've already taken it to the shop once--they said it's fine. @#$%^!! So here I am dragging my kid's video cam out in the woods. Is that challenged? Crap, I'm not that pretty! Tank is full with very fresh 50:1 mix. Shell gas with the usual "up to 10% ethanol content." Air filter is immaculate. Just barely into a second tankful of gas. This is my first Husky. Never had a saw do this before. If you come back and this video's gone, it means Husqvarna stood by its product and fixed/adjusted/replaced this machine. I'm not up in any 180-foot Douglas fir--just a landowner thinning some trees and clearing some brush in East Texas. All ideas welcome. Thanks. Update 10/16/12: The Husky tech I talked to on the 800-line was useless. Well, he wasn't Indian or Swedish-- the dude was American and spoke good English, but he was useless: "You gotta bring it in. No, we're not gonna watch your video." I don't expect folks to kiss my b*** but he apparently missed the part where I'D ALREADY TAKEN IT IN ONCE! (Circle Saw company in Houston; Warranty Repair Invoice No 47383006; 115-mile round trip. @#$%!!!!) So much for customer service.... Update 2/20/15: It was never my intent to dump on the internet. I gave almost $400 for that saw and I was just looking for customer satisfaction from Husqvarna. Since uploading the vid, I have emailed them three times to resolve this and "Sorry, it's outside the warranty" or no response. The saw has sat on a shelf ever since.... Maybe I'll do a "Chainsaw vs. Tannerite" video with it...... Just disappointing. Update 5/21/17: I called Customer Service again to see if they'd make this right. No way. It's like their corporate offices have a "stonewall" policy on social media items. I suppose their sales volume is great enough they can do this to customers. The saw still sits on a shelf.
Its not getting fuel into the carb. It'll run at low speed/load fine. Once its loaded up, it goes until its exhausted the fuel in the carb and dies. Check the fuel filter for restrictions....which could be the filter itself, not just dirt in it. Im not sure how they vent the gas tank....probably a tiny one way valve somewhere in the cap. In order to get fuel out of the tank, you have to let air in. Take the cap off the tank and try running it on its side while snapping the throttle up and down. Pinched fuel line. The fuel inlet for the carb may be restricted. One way or the other, that carb is running out of fuel. My money is on the tank not venting properly. Yeah....been a professional mechanic for 30 years, was raised in my dads auto repair garage. Grandfather was an industial mechanic. Spent my entire life messing around with worn out, screwed up motors. Id give him $200 for it.
I don't know if there is a way to contact someone on YouTube but I am sure the guy would probably sell the saw since it has just been sitting on the shelf since 2012. He added the last comment back at the end of May.
Ya tank vent, bad collapsing fuel line, debris in fuel system or carb. Could also be a bad impulse or air leak. Probably a 30 min fix.
Evidently this guy has no mechanical ability. He said he took the saw in once to the shop but it was not fixed and then Husqvarna wouldn't work with him. Taking the saw in meant a long drive of 115-mile round trip. He also stated that he tried to get Husqvarna to watch the video but they refused; claiming you gotta bring it in. Well, I don't blame him on that one; the shop had already had it and evidently didn't know how to correct the issue; I also wonder if they tested the saw by actually using it or just let it run a minute and said, "All done". Sort of like a mechanic not test driving a vehicle after doing a repair; if you don't test it, you don't know if it is repaired or not. So my guess is the guy not being mechanical just put the saw on a shelf and got some other replacement; maybe he decided on a Stihl but I am sure to bet that it was not another Husqvarna.
Kim, have you checked the guy's activity lately? If you comment on his vid and he responds, direct him here to FHC
There should be someone local to him that works on saws. If he really wanted it running he should found someone to fix it. If it had been that way since new he should have demanded his money back if nothing else.
This one has been around a long time. The fuel pump in the carb is not working. (Which is why it runs fine for a few seconds after he primes it with the purge primer, but dies as it runs out of fuel in the carb) On a 455? I'd look at the impulse line, right where it connects to the crankcase behind the cylinder on the clutch side of the saw. The line is subject to a whole bunch of heat and cracks or melts right at the little nipple. EDIT: I commented on his video over a year ago apparently.
It is a shame to let such a good saw sit on a shelf for such a minor problem. I will be happy to take the saw off his hands.
Apparently he did not take your advice You would think if he was resourceful enough to put a video of it on youtube, he should be able open up the yellow pages and find a saw shop. I bet he tells everyone that he has a saw that no one can fix.
