I've been trying to train Bentley to earn his keep......he hasn't quite caught on yet.
    Note to self....dog doesn't need a Purdy.
He's not that good yet. 20170831_212550.jpg

I would give it time. I had a dog that did something similar (same leg even) and he eventually came out of it without any noticeable limp. Took him to the vet, who sent me to a specialist who suggested we take the wait and see approach. She told me to take 6 months and see how he rehabilitated himself. Was he completely sound at 6 months? No, but he was much improved and with more time was 100%

I took that approach when I tore each of my rotator cuffs (different occasions). I knew several people who had rushed to surgery and still took over 6 months before they were 75%, or had to have further surgeries at 6 months. My shoulders were markedly improved after 6 months (on par with a gal I knew who had surgery about the same time) and healed up fine within about a year.

Ruger was limping a little a couple years ago. Took him to the vet , dr says its a partially torn acl. Going to cost big money...blah blah blah...
Couple weeks later dog is fine, no problems since...

I think this acl stuff is their new money maker!

    Partial tear - healable
Full tear - still usually ok w/o surgery in small dogs, larger breeds will likely get arthritis.

Our Maple had a partial tear in one leg, favored the other, that one went, now she knows she needs to take it easy. Healing day by day, but its a long process.

bogieb Thanks for the encouraging words. Our vet said that tears like this are more common in dogs than cats and small dogs and cats have a better chance of healing without surgery than larger dogs. We will give it time and Melody the cat has no troubles sleeping the day away.

Dave, I actually was in the feed store this morning (for once lol). There was a jar that said "calm" on it, I asked the gal and she said her customers had great results with it. Bought it. Smelled a little like Boulder Colorado iykwim (incense, essential oils, hippies.....).

It has that non pot pot in it:eek: Anyway I already bought so I will try it on him.

It's been dark here all day from the wildfire smoke, I did not realize clouds moved in and there was thunder until Rylee tried to climb me. So I just gave a trembling dog the non-pot pot chewey. I erred on the side of caution and gave him less than directed, then pinched off a tiny bit for Blondie to encourage him to eat his. It worked. :jaw:

Then I caught both of them in the kitchen cupboards looking for cookies, chips, snacks....:picard:
