I kid you not, but someone used an old boat (upside down) supported by posts for a covered entrance into their house!! And then there is the one that used an old pontoon boat for a front deck! Both of these homeowners probably beat the need for building permits since it can be listed as storage and not structural I bet! I'll have to see if I can sneak some pics!
Hey I resemble that remark. It must still be a work in progress there is no rolled up tarps attached to roll down the sides for when it rains.
Somebody say redneck? I use this old Deere to tow my splitter around (bad pto - will replace one day and go back to using it on grass and snow), and for a while just left it on the ball while splitting. I later found that this caused the oil to leak down into the air filter housing, fouling the air filter and causing the machine to drink oil. One air filter and some cursing later, I started taking it off the ball for storage and while splitting to solve the issue. It's a pain doing this for the short splitting sessions I usually manage to sneak in. A little redneck engineering sinned my problem - no more taking the splitter on and off.
Got (sneaked it) a pic of the house with a pontoon boat for a front deck! Makes you wonder whats in the backyard! Nope, not temporary at all. I grabbed a pic of the pontoon deck yesterday.
I'm not saying that they ARE temporary for the owner. Just saying that the town probably considers them temporary structures on a tax basis because it could be moved as long as it isn't anchored to the house or foundation in some manner. Probably the whole intent of the owner is to avoid taxes. At my last house we had a shed on big metal "skis" (ex was a steel fabricator). Town couldn't tax it because it was "moveable" - hook up to truck and slide it around. Never moved it (okay, did relocate it once - using the skis) but 25 years later it is still there. Know plenty of other people that have gotten around taxes in similar manners.
I've seen some good ones, right here in our area!! There's a guy up the mountain (his nickname is "Snotty", no lie) who built a full addition to the back of his camper (he LIVES in a small tag-behind), used money from beer cans at the scrap yard to buy the materials......
Property tax in nh are no joke. I have a buddy that bolted some wheels to the side, and toung to the front of his shed to avoid being taxed. Got a way with if for a bit until the nosy neighbor got wind.
The terrible neighbors were the reason we sold the last house. Actually ended up costing us to get out of there.
Neighbors at the new place are great. Mostly a waive in passing but the guy always says the wood pile is looking good, can't complain about that
