Nice spot you have there. I'm guessing that's looking north towards the hills in the lakes region?

The view is of Long Pond, looking north. Long Pond connects with Moosehead Lake, which is to the east. It takes me about 5 and a half hours to drive here. My mother bought it about 20 years ago, but once she couldn't drive anymore, I'd take her up. For a few years I could drop her off and pick her up in a week or two, but then it got so I would have to stay with her, and finally last summer she was too frail to come up at all. I have one brother, and he has no interest in the place. We have a caretaker, who has been great, but it's too much to continue to maintain, so...
The local Postmaster is buying it, and wants to have it be a snowmobiling, ATV'ing, boating paradise for his grandchildren, which is a great use for it. For me, it was always sort of a work gulag. Drive up, clean the place, weed the garden, and drive home. The best part was picking the wild blueberries up in the field. And the view. Didn't even bother going to the doctor - $6k deductible and figured my riding boots would work as well as any cast (and still allow me to drive and ride).

Nice slice of God's country, for sure. Enjoy it while you can.

I'm just catching up on this thread, and welcome Midwinter. Nice to see another NE member on here. Good looking woodpiles you have there and keep it up. There are a lot of good members here, and feel free to ask any questions. I've become better at running my stoves and getting ahead on firewood because of them.

The stove looks like a Jotul Oslo in Majolica brown enameled finish. I'll be looking forward to how the stove runs for you this winter. I've had 3 different model Jotul and really like them.

I use a VC Dutchwest small. I don't think I'd own a stove that isn't side loading, and without a removable ash tray.
