    I still think the media is making this out to be more than it really will be. I've found over the years that when it is something connected with nature that folks just aren't really that interested. I recall the last few sun and moon eclipses we've had and most people weren't even aware of it nor did they even care once they learned of it.

    Shoot, I was amazed at my own granddaughter who had never heard of the man in the moon. So, I showed her and it was like, okay Grandpa, now let's go back indoors.

    We'll have almost 60%, am i reading it right..... This will be a lengthy occurrence?

    I remember the "ring of fire"not long ago.

    Next one will be a full eclipse for our area in 2024- 7 years from now.

    Great link! I'll have to go 7 miles due south from the Folks to be on the "Blue Line". Didn't realize it was happening so late in the afternoon, though.
    Guess work will have to do without me on Tues. until I feel "rested" enough......... which might be Wed. :D

    I'm in St. Louis and every hotel is booked solid. We are supposed to be in line with a 100% eclipse.

    Did you remember to correct the time shown for the time zone you'll be in?

    I am taking a day of vacation and my family and I plan to go up to Hiawatha, Ks. My son's school starts the next day.

    Don't know. Time for max. eclipse said 18:00 (UT) approx. Not sure what the UT stands for, I figured it would be for local time.

    UT= universal time. (?)
    Here is a site to convert it back to central time...looks like you subtract 6 hours errr, ah, no add 1 hour because of the stupid daylight savings ...(remember that thread?) so that would make it 7 hours difference...or 5 hours...umm...

    Clear as mud, right? You'll know when the eclipse is going on, it'll be dark for a little while!

    Thanks for the clarification, I think. OK, so not @ 6pm, but around 12pm or so, local time. This changes my plans.
    So, no shooting at my cousins camp prior to the event.
    Back home at the normal time, no excuse to show up late on Tues. for work.

    Aarrrgh! Damm you, you UT time frame!

    :rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:

    UT used to be called Greenwich Mean Time, I think.

    My house is in the path of totality. I plan on staying home, otherwise I could meet up with KsKent. They are saying Hiawatha will more than double in size... the hotels have been sold out since last year. St Joe MO is expecting over 100,000 people there

    I for one am traveling to see it in Simpsonville, SC. It will be the first, and last chance I will have to experience totality. BUT...first I have to travel north to Tyrone PA to my friends home. That is 3 hours away, about 200 miles. Get some sleep there, THEN...travel with her 10 hours south to Simpsonville(about 600 miles) to her daughter's home. Daughter wants us to come early, as there will be over a million people traveling down there. She is also expecting others, be I asked a year ago, so I get to sleep in the house rather than camp in the yard! I bought a pack of ten of those paper glasses, as I know everyone will want to borrow them. This way they can have their own. Then, I get to do the same trek back, at least I can share the driving with a friend for the bulk.
    I know I must seem crazy to some folks, but for me it will be a chance to see something wonderful that doesn't happen every day. I hope the weather cooperates. :cool:

    P.S. Trying to bust my butt getting everything done here, and canning like crazy. I am exhausted, and I haven't even packed yet!

    I think that is awesome that you get to be right in the 100% zone. With our luck, it will be too foggy just to see the 85% that we should experience.
