    Over cast morning here with a tinge of smoke from the interior of BC. No end in sight to the warm sunny weather we have been getting.

    Went down and picked salal berries from our own yard patch. The bushes are loaded. Lots of un-ripe ones left. I am processing the ripe ones this morning. IF I can tear myself away from FHC this morning. I just have to find my notes on last years' processing. They don't need a lot of Certo as they contain their own pectin.

    Didnt hit anything.

    I came into work early to go pick up a car in Indiana, about a 90mile drive 1 way.
    I made it to the car. It was at mile marker 43 on the east bound side of I-74.
    Got the car loaded, headed back. Stopped for gas. That truck is a 2016 Ford F450 with the gas V10.
    gets about 4mpg...

    Anyways, got gas.. About 6 miles later i started smelling gas, Like it was being dumped in my lap it smelt so strong.
    Maybe 1k feet later my speed started decreasing, shortly after the truck started smoking, it shut down and it erupted into a fire ball.
    I fought the wheel, put it nose down in the ditch partially off of the highway immediatly after a closed down rest area.
    I grabbed important and immediate things, was getting these items ready as i was preparing my self to exit.

    I got it stopped, put it in park and bailed out.
    Tripped on the high way, got back up and ran off.
    I was on and off the phone with 911 within a minute and 30 seconds.
    I immediately called my boss on the phone, he didnt believe me. So i hung up the phone within
    a minute and took a picture immediately.
    The cab was already engulfed at this point, the heat had already melted the windows and the flames were
    exiting the rear window of the truck.

    It happened fast!


    We bought the truck new not 6-7 months ago.
    It only had 12,xxx miles on it i believe.

    How do those berries taste? That's a new one on me but I'm betting they can be good.

    Strange here this year. We expected good fruit because of the wet year and there are lots and lots of blackberries. Wild cherries are just beginning to ripen. Yet, our raspberries are the lightest crop we've had for probably 10 years or more.

    A darker, heavier flavor than blueberries. Plus the juice stains everything. Some people like to add pineapple juice to them but we like the flavour straight.

    I ended up with 14 jelly jars of salal jam. At least I hope it jells. If not, we have 14 jars of pancake syrup. Plus I got to clean the floor, countertop and stove from the stains.

    Today's dumpster save: firewood. This is all I had room for today. Cut to my size, split, and semi seasoned. Total haul will be about a cord. The rest of the wood is older than this stack :)

    That's $400 worth of merch I've gotten from the same estate clean out for a little free labor.
