Limbs can become trees. I've had this same thing on our place.

More resurection. Dead tree gives life to 4 new ones. Quadruplites?

In woods around here we call the tree laying on the ground the nurse tree as little ones will sprout on top it. One will survive and many years later when the nurse tree has disintegrated, the survivor will be standing there with a hole through the root system above the ground.

    Cool tree pictures.

I've seen downed black cherries and maple trees do that here, especially after a hurricane blows one over.

Roots can sprout trees too. :zip:

I have an oak that is bent that is pretty neat. I need to take a picture of it. Good sized tree that's bending already at stump. Makes a nice arc, with what looks like a complete whole other oak growing straight up out of it. One of my favorite character trees in the woods. Cool pics Backwoods! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the pics, neat stuff. We see that with willow all the time here - our town is half swamp, half mountain. Lots of empire in the swampy spots!

Saw these out at Zion national park earlier this year. Amazing how trees can thrive in places like this, yet I can't seem to plant one and have it survive in what seems like perfect conditions sometimes.
