Well.... Sort of a combination of things I guess, if I think about it: Empty nest+opportunity+some storage space+frustrating days at day job+a tangible task that has certain beginning and end points= a pile of wood

I run 10/1 to 4/15 plus or minus a week. Heat 5000 sf including basement and domestic for avg family size of four as the kids come and go. My leanto holds 17, but is all kinds of species, just whatever I come to next, maple, locust, ask, oak etc.... so having given you that background, in a cold winter I burn the whole thing, last winter I had 3-4 cords left so I sold some. I try to fill every year with 17 out of the pile.
Yep, I don't really sort mine either but I generally just drag home cherry and on up the scale. That's a bunch of wood, but That's also a lot of heat demand. We enjoy seeing your escapades, burn on brother
