Got a call from a friend, has a co-worker wanting to get rid of four big hawthorn. I have never burned them so curious. Good, bad, mediocre?

Good burning, but a lot of thorny brush.

Question is are you willing to withstand the pain in order to process the wood? Look it over before you make your choice. Thorns will puncture tires as well as boots.

From the sounds of it I might just pass, I really don't need any more wood. And I can get all the wood I want from my uncles place with much less effort.

Never burned it but going to. I cut down a hawthorn for my neighbor lady this winter. Seemed like decent wood, about like Sycamore if I had to guess. I will report back in 3 - 4 years when I burn it LOL.

Hawthorn is a lot like apple, in other words great firewood. How large are the trees? I agree the brush will be a pain, but if there will be some decent firewood in the deal, it might be worth it.

Key with any thorny tree is to use a long bar & shave the thorns off with the top of the bar to where the thorns are thrown away from you. I do a lot of locust & hedge. Very good fire wood. Here the hawthorns aren't very large.
